The announced price was £21.1 million. The facility added about 1,600 square meters (17,200 square feet) and 1.4 MW of customer power capacity to TelecityGroup’s existing Manchester estate—not to a new market entry.
What TelecityGroup acquired
The target was Internet Facilitators Limited, a Manchester data-center operator. TelecityGroup described the acquisition as adding IFL to its existing operations; the announcement does not frame it as a purchase of isolated floor space. TelecityGroup’s announcement and contemporaneous trade coverage identify IFL’s facility as carrier-neutral.
In practical terms, a carrier-neutral data center can allow customers to connect to multiple telecommunications carriers and network providers rather than relying on a single network operator. That choice can matter to businesses colocating equipment and arranging connectivity, though the acquisition reports do not identify IFL’s individual customers or their network arrangements.
Price, date and reported capacity
| Deal detail | Reported figure | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Announcement | August 2, 2010 | The date reported for TelecityGroup’s announcement. |
| Announced price | £21.1 million | The contemporaneous reported consideration; not an inflation-adjusted or current-value figure. |
| Space | 1,600 m², or about 17,200 sq. ft. | Reported data-center area. |
| Power | 1.4 MW | Reported customer power capacity, not a measurement of electricity consumed, occupied IT load or capacity immediately available for sale. |
Data Center Knowledge’s contemporaneous report gave the price as approximately $33.4 million at the exchange rate used in that 2010 report. That conversion is not a present-day valuation.

Why Manchester mattered
This was an expansion of an existing TelecityGroup presence, not the company’s first move into Manchester. The company said IFL complemented its local operations and would help it strengthen its position in North West England as it anticipated growth in demand for connected data-center capacity. Those were management’s stated expectations; the announcement did not provide a quantified market forecast or establish a specific capacity shortage. Data Center Dynamics also reported that TelecityGroup already had a Manchester presence.
TelecityGroup’s UK and Ireland country manager, Adriaan Oosthoek, praised IFL’s customer record, operational performance and employees. Those comments represent management’s assessment of the business, rather than independently reported performance measures.

How the acquisition fit TelecityGroup’s 2010 growth
The Manchester transaction came as TelecityGroup was expanding across Europe. Its announcement described a network of 24 network-independent data centers in seven European countries, naming London, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Paris, Stockholm, Manchester, Milan and Dublin. The list contains eight cities; multiple cities can be located in the same country.
In results for the six months ended June 30, 2010, TelecityGroup reported revenue of £93.7 million, EBITDA of £37.9 million and adjusted profit after tax of £17.6 million. It also reported total announced capacity of up to 92 MW, compared with 60 MW a year earlier. These figures provide company-wide context for its expansion program; they do not measure the Manchester acquisition’s contribution. TelecityGroup’s half-year results also discussed capacity investment elsewhere, including Stockholm and London.

The 3.5 MW Manchester project was separate
In November 2010, TelecityGroup announced a new 3.5 MW Manchester data center, planned to open in the third quarter of 2011. The company linked the project to its recent IFL acquisition, but the announcement treated it as a separate development—not as part of the acquired facility. The IFL acquisition’s reported capacity was 1.4 MW. TelecityGroup’s November announcement and Data Center Dynamics’ report cover the later project.
Why some later accounts give different figures
The contemporaneous announcement and 2010 reporting use August 2 and £21.1 million. A later financial report refers to a July acquisition and £20.5 million. The available accounts do not establish why the date and price differ, so the distinction should not be treated as proof of a separate transaction or a known accounting adjustment. For the announced deal terms, the contemporaneous £21.1 million figure is the clearest reference point. The later report is the source of the differing figures.
What happened to TelecityGroup
TelecityGroup continued to expand after the IFL deal. It was later acquired by Equinix in a transaction completed in January 2016, according to the SEC-hosted transaction document. That corporate history does not, by itself, establish the later ownership, branding or specifications of the particular IFL facility.
