Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Yes—the leak was substantially accurate, but it described a limited December 2024 promotion, not a permanent T-Mobile policy. Beginning December 13, 2024, qualifying customers on Go5G Next could trade in certain listed phone models in any condition for up to $1,000 toward select iPhone 16 and Galaxy S24-series devices. Eligible Go5G Next 55+, Military, and First Responder plans had a lower maximum of up to $800.
“Any condition” did not mean that T-Mobile accepted every phone. The trade-in still had to be an eligible model with a verifiable IMEI, and the discount generally arrived through device financing and 24 monthly bill credits.

Status: This was a historical December 2024 promotion. T-Mobile’s archived Samsung offer lists January 21, 2025, as its end date. Do not assume the same iPhone 16 or Galaxy S24 terms are available today.

The short version
| Customer type | Maximum credit | Eligible targets | How the credit worked |
|---|---|---|---|
| Go5G Next | Up to $1,000 | Select iPhone 16 and Galaxy S24-series phones | One-time trade-in credit plus monthly credits over 24 months |
| Go5G Next 55+, Military, or First Responder | Up to $800 | Select eligible target phones | Monthly bill credits, subject to the promotion’s terms |
The promotion was most attractive for an existing Go5G Next customer with a badly damaged but eligible phone who expected to stay with T-Mobile for at least two years. It was less compelling for someone who needed to move to a more expensive plan solely to obtain the phone discount.

Was the leak real?
The original report appeared on December 12, 2024, when PhoneArena reported on a leaked promotional image obtained by The Mobile Report. The image described a December 13 launch and unusually broad condition rules for eligible trade-ins.
T-Mobile’s subsequently archived promotional pages corroborated the central claims: the Go5G Next requirement, the up-to-$1,000 maximum, the reduced maximum for qualifying segmented plans, and the 24-month bill-credit structure. The archived Apple offer details identify the relevant trade-in tiers, while T-Mobile’s archived 2025 offer page records the Samsung promotion and its January 21, 2025, end date.
Which phones could customers get?
The Apple promotion covered eligible iPhone 16-series purchases, including the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max. The Samsung promotion applied to eligible Galaxy S24-series devices and related Samsung flagship products described in the promotional structure.
A $1,000 credit could cover the financed price of some target phones, but not necessarily every model, storage configuration, or premium handset. In those cases, the customer remained responsible for the difference after promotional credits.

Which trade-ins received the highest credits?
The amount depended on the exact trade-in model, not merely on whether the phone was broken.
Apple trade-in tiers
- Up to $1,000: Examples included the iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro, Galaxy S22 Ultra, Galaxy S23 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold5, and Galaxy Z Flip5.
- Up to $830: Examples included the iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max, iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 14, iPhone 15, and various Galaxy, Pixel, OnePlus, and Motorola models.
- Up to $415: Examples included iPhone 6 through iPhone 11 models, the second- and third-generation iPhone SE, and older Galaxy, Pixel, OnePlus, LG, and Motorola phones.
T-Mobile’s archived Apple terms use the iPhone 13 Pro as an example of the $1,000 tier, the iPhone 12 Pro as an example of the $830 tier, and the iPhone 6 as an example of the $415 tier. The exact eligibility database controlled the result.
Samsung trade-in tiers
The leaked Samsung material described a tier of up to $1,000 for a broad set of Galaxy, iPhone, Pixel, OnePlus, and Motorola phones, plus a lower tier of up to $500 for older devices. Because the complete model table came from leaked promotional material, customers would have needed to check the exact device and IMEI against T-Mobile’s eligibility system.
What “any condition” actually meant
The important distinction was between condition and eligibility. A listed model could qualify despite being cracked, damaged, non-working, or cosmetically defective. But the condition language did not turn every phone into an eligible trade-in.

T-Mobile still required the phone’s IMEI and imposed account, financing, and submission requirements. A lost or stolen device, a phone with an account lock, a blacklisted IMEI, or a device whose identity could not be verified could create a separate eligibility problem. The archived offer terms support “any condition” for eligible devices; they should not be read as a guarantee for every locked, stolen, or unverifiable phone.
For a working phone, back up your data, sign out of accounts, disable security locks, remove the SIM or eSIM where applicable, and erase the device before surrendering it.
Which plans qualified?
The main qualifying plan was Go5G Next. The reported and archived terms also covered qualifying Go5G Next 55+, Military, and First Responder versions, generally with a maximum of up to $800 rather than $1,000.

How the discount was paid
This was generally not an instant $1,000 reduction at checkout. The phone was financed, and the promotion combined a one-time trade-in credit with monthly bill credits over 24 months. T-Mobile’s archived terms said customers could need to wait up to two billing cycles before the credits appeared.
The qualifying line and account generally had to remain active and in good standing. If the customer cancelled the account, future credits could stop. The terms also warned that paying off the device early could end the promotional credits. The remaining financed balance could then become the customer’s responsibility.
What customers still had to pay
- Sales tax: The archived terms specify tax based on the phone’s pre-credit price, not necessarily the amount remaining after promotional credits.
- Device connection charge: The offer listed a $35 charge.
- Financing or down payment: The target phone still had a financed price and could require an amount due at sale.
- Wireless service: The qualifying plan’s monthly cost continued throughout the credit period.
- Early-exit exposure: Cancelling or otherwise losing eligibility could leave unpaid device installments after future credits ended.
For that reason, “free iPhone” or “free Galaxy” meant that promotional credits could offset the financed device payments under the applicable conditions. It did not mean zero tax, zero fees, zero service cost, or immediate ownership without a commitment.
When was the deal worth it?
Strong fit
- You already had Go5G Next.
- You planned to remain with T-Mobile for the full 24-month credit period.
- Your eligible trade-in was cracked, obsolete, or otherwise worth little on the resale market.
- You wanted an iPhone 16 or Galaxy S24-series device.
- You were comfortable financing the phone and waiting for monthly credits.
Weak fit
- You would upgrade to Go5G Next only for the promotion.
- You might switch carriers before receiving all 24 credits.
- Your working phone could sell privately for more than the promotional value.
- You wanted an unlocked phone or an immediate full discount.
- You could not afford tax on the pre-credit price and the connection charge.
- Your model was not in T-Mobile’s eligibility table.
The basic calculation was:
Net deal value = promotional credit − extra plan cost − upfront fees − the risk of losing remaining credits.
Best Value
- The large 6.9-inch display combines ProMotion 120Hz technology with advanced color calibration, giving movies, games, and productivity apps a spacious, crisp, and fluid visual experience that’s ideal for multitasking or immersive media consumption.
For an existing Go5G Next customer, the incremental plan cost might be small because the customer already paid for the qualifying service. For someone on a cheaper plan, the phone credit could be offset substantially by the additional service cost over two years. The historical January 2024 T-Mobile rate card listed Go5G Next individual pricing at $100 per month before applicable discounts or line configurations, but that is not a verified current price.
Other limitations to check
The archived terms indicated that the promotion might not combine with every other offer or discount. Customers should not assume that a trade-in credit automatically stacked with a new-line promotion, a military or first-responder discount, existing device credits, or other incentives.
The terms also limited the number of discounted devices per account to up to four. The exact target-phone price, trade-in model, plan variant, account status, and transaction date all mattered.

What the leak did—and did not—promise
- Accurate: Certain eligible models could be traded in regardless of physical condition.
- Not accurate: T-Mobile would accept any phone whatsoever.
- Accurate: Some qualifying customers could receive up to $1,000 toward a new device.
- Misleading without context: Every iPhone 16 or Galaxy S24 model would be free.
- Important omission: The customer had to remain eligible while receiving 24 monthly credits.
- Important cost: Taxes, a $35 connection charge, plan charges, and possible financing costs remained.
Bottom line
T-Mobile’s leaked “any-condition” promotion was real in substance, but it was a dated, tightly qualified offer. From December 13, 2024, eligible Go5G Next customers could receive up to $1,000 toward select iPhone 16 and Galaxy S24-series devices for certain listed trade-in models, even when those devices were damaged. Qualifying segmented plans generally topped out at $800.
The deal made the most sense for customers already on Go5G Next who planned to stay for 24 months. It was not a blanket acceptance policy, an instant cash discount, or a reason by itself to move to a more expensive plan.
