For an Amazon.com gift card that has already been redeemed, sign in to the correct Amazon account and open Gift Cards or Manage your gift card balance. The same destination is available in the Amazon Shopping app through the account or profile area.
If the card is still unredeemed, do not enter its claim code merely to test the balance: redeeming it generally applies the value to the account currently signed in. For an unredeemed, damaged, missing, or disputed card, use Amazon’s official Customer Service channels.

Check your Amazon gift card balance online
- Go to Amazon.com and sign in.
- Select Account & Lists, then open Gift Cards or Manage your gift card balance.
- Read the available gift-card balance shown on the page.
- Review the balance activity or transaction history if the amount is unexpected.
Amazon’s account labels can change, but Gift Cards and Manage your gift card balance generally lead to the same account area. You can also try Amazon’s commonly used balance-page shortcut: amazon.com/gp/css/gc/balance. Amazon may redirect the link or change the page address, so the account navigation is the more durable method.

Check your balance in the Amazon app
- Open the official Amazon Shopping app and sign in.
- Tap the person, profile, or account icon.
- Look for Gift Card Balance, or open Payments and choose Manage gift card balance.
- Review the available balance and any displayed activity.
Amazon’s app layout varies by device, app version, marketplace, and account. If you do not see the exact wording above, use the app’s account area or search for gift card balance. A desktop browser can be easier if the app does not expose the setting.
Can you check by phone?
There is no consistently published, dedicated Amazon.com automated telephone number that readers can safely use to enter a claim code and hear its balance. The responsible route is to contact Amazon through its official Customer Service page or the Customer Service section of the app.
- Open Amazon’s official Customer Service page or the app.
- Select a gift-card or account-balance issue.
- Choose chat or request a phone contact option if Amazon offers it for your issue.
- Explain whether the card is unredeemed, already redeemed, damaged, missing from the balance, or possibly not activated.
Have these details available if Amazon requests them:

Amazon support guidance has mentioned 16-digit or 30-digit serial numbers and order numbers in some investigations. Those formats are not a universal requirement for every card.

Account balance versus an unredeemed card
These are different things:
- Account gift-card balance: Credit already redeemed to the signed-in Amazon account. Amazon normally shows it as an available total, with activity that may show additions and spending.
- Unredeemed card: A physical or digital card whose claim code has not yet been applied to an account. Its printed denomination may be visible, but activation or remaining value may require Amazon’s assistance.
The normal redemption form is not a neutral balance checker. Entering a valid claim code and confirming the action generally applies the card to the account currently signed in. Before redeeming, confirm the account name and email address at the top of Amazon’s page or in the app.
There is not a guaranteed public self-service Amazon.com tool for checking the value of every unredeemed card without applying it. If you need to verify an unredeemed card, contact Customer Service with the card and purchase information instead.
What to do if the balance is missing or wrong
- Confirm the account. Sign out and check other Amazon accounts you or your household may use. A card redeemed while another account was active will not appear in this account’s balance.
- Check balance activity. Look for the date the credit was added and subsequent purchases or deductions.
- Consider an already-redeemed card. Amazon may show an already-redeemed message when the card was applied to the current account or to another account.
- Confirm the marketplace. This article covers Amazon.com in the United States. A U.S. Amazon.com card should not be assumed to work on Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.ca, or another country’s Amazon store.
- Check retailer activation. A card bought in a store may not have been activated correctly. Keep the receipt and ask Amazon or the retailer to investigate.
- Contact Amazon. Use the official support page rather than a number supplied by an unsolicited message, pop-up, advertisement, or caller.
If the claim code is damaged or unreadable
Keep the card and receipt. Do not repeatedly guess the code or share photographs publicly. Take photos for your own records, then contact Amazon through its official support channel. Be ready to provide the visible card number, serial number, retailer, purchase date, receipt, and any order information. Amazon may be able to investigate, but Customer Service cannot be assumed to resolve every unredeemed-card problem or reveal every card’s value.
Can the balance be transferred or used elsewhere?
Amazon gift-card credit is associated with the account and marketplace where it was redeemed. Amazon support guidance indicates that a redeemed balance generally cannot simply be transferred to another Amazon account or moved to a different country’s Amazon store. Check with Amazon for any account-specific exception before assuming a transfer, refund, or correction is possible.

Do not assume that every card sold through Amazon is an Amazon.com Gift Card. Visa and Mastercard prepaid cards, Whole Foods Market gift cards, and other retailers’ cards have separate balance systems and terms. Use the issuer printed on the card for those products. In particular, a Whole Foods Market gift card is not the same as ordinary Amazon.com gift-card credit; see the Whole Foods gift-card terms.
Likewise, do not import another country’s rules into the United States. For example, Amazon UK’s gift-card guidance discusses UK-specific policies and navigation; it is not authority for Amazon.com terms. Do not assume a U.S. Amazon.com gift card has the same expiration rules, validity period, or permitted uses as a card issued for another marketplace. Review the terms shown for the specific card or ask Amazon Customer Service.
Protect yourself from gift-card scams
Warning: Amazon will not require you to buy gift cards to fix an account, protect a package, pay a bill, or receive a refund. Do not give a claim code or card photograph to an unsolicited caller, text message, email, social-media account, or pop-up.
Start from the Amazon app or type Amazon.com manually. Do not rely on a phone number found in a suspicious message or search advertisement claiming to be Amazon gift-card support.

Can I use an Amazon.com gift card on Amazon.co.uk?
Do not assume so. Amazon gift cards are generally marketplace-specific, and a U.S. Amazon.com balance should not be treated as interchangeable with another country’s Amazon store.
