T-Mobile says it is retiring some older wireless plans and moving affected customers to newer ones. The company says some customers will see no monthly bill change and others a “modest adjustment.” MacRumors reported an average increase of around $4 per line per month, with some changes reaching $6, but those figures are not an official rate schedule and do not predict an individual bill. Check your own notice and account before deciding what to do.
What T-Mobile confirmed about the 2026 change
In a statement quoted by Tom’s Guide and TmoReport in June 2026, T-Mobile said it was retiring its oldest plans and moving affected customers to modern plans. The company said some customers would see no change to their monthly bill while some would see a “modest adjustment.” It also said customers moved to a new plan would keep their current benefits while gaining improvements in network and service experiences. That is T-Mobile’s position, not independent proof that every customer will receive the same value or experience.
Coverage indicated that some older Simple Choice and ONE plans were among those discussed, but no complete verified public list of affected plan codes or customers is available. The public sources also do not establish one universal change date or exact charge. Your account notice and current plan details are the useful sources for your specific case.
How much might the bill change?
MacRumors reported an average increase of around $4 per line per month, with some changes of $6. These are reported estimates, not guaranteed amounts, and should not be multiplied across your lines as though they were an official quote. The report did not provide a complete rate schedule or account-by-account notice details. T-Mobile says some customers will have no monthly bill change.

Why did my T-Mobile bill go up?
A higher total may reflect the plan transition, a separately listed fee, or other items on the account. Compare the plan price and recurring fees separately rather than treating every increase as a single price change.
Distinguish the plan price from scheduled fees
T-Mobile’s billing support page lists voice-line Regulatory Programs and Telco Recovery fees of $4.49 per line monthly, increasing to $5.49 effective October 12, 2026. For Mobile Internet lines, it lists $2.10 per line monthly, increasing to $2.60 on that date. These fees are listed separately from plan prices; they are not the reported legacy-plan migration amount.

A full bill can also include taxes, device payments, promotions, and other charges. T-Mobile says taxes and fees may vary with plan terms. The same support page says you can log in to your account to download and print up to 18 previous bills for free, which can help you identify when a line item changed.
Do not confuse this with the 2024 increase
T-Mobile’s response to an FCC complaint described a separate 2024 change: the company said notices began May 22, 2024, with increases appearing on June or July 2024 bills. It said customers with Price Lock were not affected by that 2024 change. That historical statement does not establish the charge or protection for a customer’s 2026 plan transition.

Will Price Lock protect my plan?
Not necessarily. T-Mobile’s Price Lock FAQ describes different policies tied to when an account activated or changed plans. Eligibility depends on the specific plan, date, and terms attached to the account—not simply on the plan’s nickname.
| Policy described by T-Mobile | Relevant activation or transition period | What T-Mobile says it covers |
|---|---|---|
| Original Price Lock | Qualifying mobile accounts activated April 28, 2022 through January 17, 2024 | Terms depend on the qualifying account and applicable exclusions; consult the official FAQ. |
| “Last Month Price Lock” | Eligible rate plans activated January 18, 2024 through April 22, 2025 | If T-Mobile changes the price and the customer leaves within 60 days, the stated remedy is reimbursement of the final month’s recurring service charges. |
| 5-Year Price Guarantee | Qualifying Experience smartphone plans activated or switched to from April 23, 2025; T-Mobile also says qualifying accounts transitioned to eligible plans in 2026 receive it | The guarantee is subject to the plan’s eligibility and the FAQ’s terms. |
T-Mobile lists exclusions that can include taxes and fees and, depending on the policy, promotions, per-use charges, third-party services, discounts, and network-management practices. A price guarantee should not be read as a promise that every component of the bill will stay fixed. Check the FAQ and the terms for your particular account.

What to do when you receive a plan-change notice
- Open the actual notice. Use the text, email, mailed letter, or account alert sent to you. Record the plan name, change date, new monthly rate, number of lines, and any stated changes to discounts or included benefits. There is no single public notice date or charge established for everyone.
- Compare bills line by line. Use your account’s bill history to compare the plan charge, separate fees, taxes, device payments, and promotions before and after the change.
- Check your guarantee terms. Match your account’s activation or plan-transition date and qualifying plan against T-Mobile’s official Price Lock FAQ. Do not infer eligibility from a plan name alone.
- Compare realistic alternatives. Consider the transitioned plan, other plans currently available to your account, and plans from other carriers. Compare total monthly cost across all lines, retained discounts and benefits, the data, hotspot and roaming features you use, guarantee exclusions, switching costs, and any device obligations. Offers and eligibility vary by account and date, so there is no universal cheapest choice.
- Ask T-Mobile about a mismatch. Use the contact details or account-support tools on T-Mobile’s official site if the notice and account total do not match. Your own notice and account terms matter more than another customer’s reported bill or an old plan nickname.
How to choose between staying, changing plans, or switching
Make the decision using the cost and features your household will actually keep, not just the new plan’s headline price. A cheaper alternative may drop a discount or benefit; a higher-priced plan may include features you need. Before switching, account for any device payments and confirm which discounts or benefits would carry over. Since T-Mobile has not published a complete customer-by-customer migration schedule in the sources available, verify current prices and eligibility directly with each provider before relying on a comparison.
What the older T-Mobile price increase claim does—and does not—show
In 2026, the National Advertising Division found T-Mobile’s claim that it had made one price increase on talk, text, and data plans in the previous ten years supported in the proceeding; the decision also said T-Mobile would appeal. That finding is historical context, not a list of customers affected by the 2026 transition or a guarantee about an individual bill.
