The settlement administrator says the initial distribution is complete and the deadline to request reissue of an initial payment has passed. A residual distribution is expected later in 2026, but the administrator has not said which individuals will receive one or given individual payment dates. Verify your own payment with the official administrator rather than assuming a check—or a future payment—is guaranteed.
What the T-Mobile settlement check is for
T-Mobile announced a criminal cyberattack on August 16, 2021. A court-authorized notice says personal information belonging to approximately 76 million U.S. consumers was compromised. The information involved varied by person; possible data included names, addresses, ZIP codes, phone numbers, dates of birth, Social Security or tax identification numbers, government ID numbers such as driver’s license numbers, and certain account or network identifiers. The notice does not say every affected person had every listed type of information exposed. Read the court-authorized long-form notice.
The payment stems from a class-action settlement, not a court finding that T-Mobile was legally responsible. The plaintiffs alleged that T-Mobile failed to adequately protect personal information. T-Mobile denied wrongdoing, and the settlement included no admission of liability, wrongdoing, or responsibility. The court approved the settlement on June 29, 2023, and T-Mobile’s SEC filing says all appeals have been resolved. See T-Mobile’s SEC filing.
Why the amount on your check may not match an advertised figure
The claims period closed on January 23, 2023. People with valid claims could receive payment by the digital method they selected or by paper check. The settlement covered documented out-of-pocket losses, lost time, and an alternative cash payment. The original alternative payment terms listed $25, or $100 for qualifying California residents, but those were not guaranteed amounts: payments could be adjusted based on the number and amount of claims. In a 2025 SEC filing, T-Mobile reported paying $350 million in aggregate to fund claims, plaintiffs’ legal fees, and settlement administration. It also reported $150 million in aggregate data-security and related-technology spending in 2022 and 2023. Those company-wide figures do not establish what any individual class member was paid or is owed. Read the SEC filing.
How to verify a payment or ask about your claim
- Start with the official settlement website. The site identifies itself as the only authorized website for this case and says it is controlled by Kroll, the court-approved administrator. Go to the T-Mobile Data Breach Settlement website by typing its address yourself rather than relying on an unexpected email or text link.
- Call the administrator for an individual payment question. Kroll lists 1-833-512-2314 for questions about a submitted claim or payment. If you received a notice, have your Class Member ID available. Check Kroll’s published contact details.
- Explain what you need checked. Tell the administrator whether you submitted a claim, which payment method you selected if you know it, and whether you are asking about an initial payment or the possible residual distribution. The public status page does not determine an individual reader’s payment status.
Do not assume that a check is authentic merely because it refers to the breach, or that a missed check means a payment is still available. Use the administrator’s published contact details to confirm your situation.

What the administrator says about payments now
The settlement site states: “All court proceedings are complete, and the initial distribution has concluded.” It also says the deadline to request reissue of an initial payment has passed and that a residual distribution is expected later in 2026. The site does not name which individuals will receive residual payments or provide a specific payment date for any person. These are the administrator’s current public status statements, not confirmation that a particular reader is owed money. Check the settlement status page.

Class members who did not submit a cash claim may still be able to use settlement identity services. According to the FAQ, Identity Defense Services are provided through Pango and include credit monitoring and other identity-related features. Monitoring is available through January 20, 2028, subject to possible extension under the settlement terms. Restoration Services, which provide access to fraud-resolution specialists, are also available to settlement class members.
