The ranking below orders all 13 released films in that table by cumulative worldwide gross, using nominal dollars rather than inflation-adjusted totals.

What the ranking says—and what it does not

The top three

The Force Awakens leads by a wide margin in this nominal worldwide-gross comparison. The Last Jedi is second, followed by The Rise of Skywalker.

A close race among the next three billion-dollar films

Rogue One ranks fourth at $1,055,083,596, just ahead of The Phantom Menace at $1,046,513,456. The difference between their listed totals is $8,570,140.

The figures are not ticket counts or profit

A dollar total is not a measure of how many tickets a movie sold: ticket prices differ by place and time, and older releases may have accumulated additional gross through later theatrical runs. Nor does box-office gross equal a studio’s profit. The Numbers lists estimated production budgets separately, but gross alone does not account for distribution, marketing, participation, or other costs.

  • The Skywalker saga’s center trilogy introduces Luke Skywalker, who is drawn into the rebellion against the evil Galactic Empire when he is recruited by Obi-Wan Kenobi. Strong in the Force, Luke is confronted with a shocking truth — while Sith Lord Darth Vader faces a supreme decision.

How to interpret the totals

  • Worldwide, not domestic: Each value is the worldwide-gross column, rather than the domestic total also shown in The Numbers’ table.
  • Nominal dollars: The figures are not adjusted for inflation, so the ordering does not compare equivalent purchasing power across release years.
  • Cumulative theatrical gross: Totals may include rereleases, rather than only a film’s initial release.
  • Released films only: The ranking includes 13 released entries in the table, including the 2008 animated theatrical film The Clone Wars and the 2026 release The Mandalorian and Grogu.

For these reasons, this list answers which released Star Wars film has the largest reported cumulative worldwide gross. It does not establish which drew the biggest audience, performed best relative to inflation, or was most profitable.

Why no future films are ranked

Projects that have not been released do not yet have box-office results. Lucasfilm lists Star Wars: Starfighter as a future theatrical film scheduled for May 28, 2027; it should not be treated as a zero-gross movie in a ranking of released films.
