Adani Group companies had taken control of NDTV less than a month earlier, on December 30, 2022. Jain’s announcement did not give a specific reason for his decision, so the timing is documented but a connection between the takeover and his resignation is not confirmed.
When did Sreenivasan Jain leave NDTV?
Jain announced his resignation on January 28, 2023. Scroll reported that he had worked at NDTV since 1995 and anchored the programmes Reality Check and Truth vs Hype. Jain described his time at the broadcaster as an “amazing, nearly three-decade long run.” Scroll’s January 28, 2023 report covered his announcement and career at NDTV.
What did Jain say about his resignation?
The News Minute reproduced Jain’s January 28 post: “Hi all. An amazing, nearly three-decade long run at NDTV comes to an end today. The decision to resign wasn’t easy, but .. it is what it is. More later.” The post said the decision was not easy, but did not identify a specific reason for leaving. The News Minute’s report also described the management changes around the time of his departure.
How did the NDTV takeover unfold?
The ownership changes preceded Jain’s resignation. On December 23, 2022, NDTV founders Radhika and Prannoy Roy said AMG Media Network had become the broadcaster’s single-largest shareholder after the open offer, and that they had agreed to divest most of their shares to AMG. In its FY 2022–23 annual report, NDTV said Adani Group companies RRPR Holding Private Limited and Vishvapradhan Commercial Private Limited took control of NDTV on December 30, 2022, and that NDTV became a subsidiary of AMG Media Networks Limited.

Did the Adani takeover cause Jain to resign?
The available statements establish that Jain’s resignation came after the change in control; they do not establish that the takeover caused his decision. Jain did not give a specific reason in the announcement quoted by The News Minute, and reports of other senior departures provide context, not proof of his personal motive. It is therefore accurate to say he quit after the takeover, but not to present the takeover as his confirmed reason for leaving.
