The Shire of Murray adopted an overall rate increase of 3.95% for 2024/25, alongside a $21,990,114 allocation for roads, footpaths, bridges and drainage. The increase applies to that financial year; it is not the Shire’s latest announced rate figure.
What the 3.95% increase means
The Shire of Murray’s 2024/25 budget announcement says Council adopted an overall rate increase of 3.95%. That is the Shire’s budget-wide increase, not a guaranteed 3.95% rise in every individual property’s bill or a typical household dollar amount.
The Shire budgeted total revenue of $43,271,074, including $21,507,214 from rates. It said rates accounted for 50% of budgeted revenue, with the balance expected to come predominantly from grants and contributions, fees and charges, and other sources.
The amount a particular property owner pays depends on the property and its rating category. The 2024–2025 Annual Budget states that properties used predominantly for non-rural purposes are rated on Gross Rental Value, while other properties are rated on Unimproved Value. The published overall percentage alone does not establish an individual bill.

How much was allocated to roads and paths?
The 2024/25 budget set aside $21,990,114 for roads, footpaths, bridges and drainage. Within that combined allocation, $638,155 was assigned to footpath renewal and upgrades, including a planned 3 km upgrade linking to North Pinjarra. The footpath figure is one part of the wider infrastructure allocation, not an additional amount to add to it.

- $630,000 for works at Sir Ross McLarty Oval, including car parking and cricket wickets.
- $300,000 for improvements at Humphrey Park.
- $947,623 to complete work at the Corio Road Waste Transfer Station.
- $125,677 for new courts and cricket wickets at North Dandalup Public Open Space.
- $98,815 to expand the CCTV network in Pinjarra’s central business district.
Which road projects were named?
The budget announcement also listed specific road allocations and work across regional roads:
- $2,414,980 to progress design and construction for the Munday Avenue Extension.
- $439,415 to continue a 2 km reconstruction and upgrade section of Coolup Road South.
- $1,930,843 for design or construction across Burnside Road, Lakes Road, Hopelands Road, Paterson Road, Old Mandurah Road, South Yunderup Road, Del Park Road and Old Bunbury Road.
These are announced budget commitments and project descriptions. The announcement does not, by itself, establish that the listed work was subsequently completed.

Later Shire announcements reported different overall increases. The figures below refer to separate adopted budget years, not to changes within the 2024/25 budget.
