The names linked to Sheffield Wednesday’s 2025–26 sale changed as the process unfolded. James Bord’s consortium became preferred bidder in December 2025, but withdrew in February 2026. Arise Capital Partners then became preferred bidder and completed its purchase of the club on 2 May 2026. The earlier bidders are part of the club’s sale history, not a current bidding round.

Who were Sheffield Wednesday’s takeover bidders?

Several bidders were reported during the sale process, but public reports did not identify every investor or participant. The stages matter: being named as a bidder was not the same as becoming preferred bidder, and preferred-bidder status did not guarantee completion.

Group or bidder Reported role and public details Outcome
James Bord-led consortium BBC Sport reported that the group was led by James Bord and Felix Romer, with Alsharif Faisal Bin Jamil described as its chief executive. The BBC reported a proposed takeover value of £47.8 million when the group withdrew in February 2026. Selected as preferred bidder in December 2025; withdrew on 25 February 2026.
Mike Ashley BBC reported in December 2025 that the former Newcastle United owner was among the other bidders. The reviewed reports do not establish the terms or outcome of an individual Ashley bid. Reported as a bidder; not identified as the successful buyer.
David Storch and Arise Capital Partners The club’s administrators named Arise Capital Partners LLC as preferred bidder on 10 March 2026. BBC reported that the group was led by David Storch, his son Michael, and Tom Costin. Completed the purchase of Sheffield Wednesday on 2 May 2026.

The public reports identify people associated with the competing groups, not a complete register of all bidders or consortium investors. (BBC Sport: Bord consortium identities; other bidders; Sheffield Wednesday: sale-process update)

Who was James Bord, and who was in his consortium?

James Bord

BBC Sport reported that Bord founded Short Circuit Science, a sports analytics business that provides modelling and decision support to professional football clubs. It also reported that he had completed a takeover of Scottish Championship side Dunfermline.

Felix Romer

The BBC described Romer as a German-born entrepreneur associated with online consumer businesses in fintech, gambling and software, and reported that he was a shareholder in Short Circuit Science.

Alsharif Faisal Bin Jamil

BBC Sport described Bin Jamil as the consortium’s chief executive and reported that he was said to be a member of the Jordanian royal family. The BBC also noted that his LinkedIn profile listed board roles at Dunfermline and Spanish club Córdoba. The royal-family description is attributed to that reporting, not independently verified here.

These credentials help explain why the consortium attracted attention, but they do not establish that the proposed deal would complete or predict how a club would be run. BBC’s report named these three people; it did not identify every investor in the wider group. (BBC Sport, 6 January 2026)

What happened to Bord’s proposed takeover?

The consortium withdrew on 25 February 2026. BBC Sport reported that its proposed takeover had been valued at £47.8 million and that administrators would re-engage with other bidders on an expedited timetable. The reported value was for the proposed deal; it should not be read as a completed purchase price or as evidence that the transaction was certain to proceed.

Who is David Storch, and what did Arise say about funding?

On 10 March 2026, Sheffield Wednesday’s official sale-process update named Arise Capital Partners LLC as the new preferred bidder. The administrators said Arise had supplied a substantial deposit and evidence of funds intended to complete the deal and support the club. That announcement established the group’s position in the process at that time, not a completed sale.

BBC Sport reported on 11 March that Arise was led by aviation executive David Storch, his son Michael and Tom Costin. While the deal was still subject to EFL scrutiny and negotiation, David Storch said that initial investment would come from him and Costin and discussed raising more capital after stabilising the club. Those were statements about the group’s plans before completion, not guarantees of future funding.

Storch also told BBC Radio Sheffield before completion that the group would be “the custodians” of the club and “partners” of the fans. Those remarks expressed intent; they did not mean fans would legally own the club.

Who owns Sheffield Wednesday now?

Arise Capital Partners, led by David Storch, bought Sheffield Wednesday on 2 May 2026, ending Dejphon Chansiri’s ownership. The club had entered administration on 24 October 2025. BBC Sport reported that administration brought an immediate 12-point deduction, with a further six-point deduction tied to missed payment obligations. Wednesday had been relegated to League One before the takeover completed.

After the club exited administration, the EFL waived a further 15-point deduction, BBC Sport reported. Two seasons of budget restrictions remained. Those conditions describe the sale’s reported league and financial context; they do not establish the club’s longer-term sporting or financial prospects.

(BBC Sport, 2 May 2026)

Why did the sale process become urgent?

Administration and the deductions placed the sale against an unusually difficult sporting and financial backdrop during the 2025–26 season. The 18 points deducted before the sale comprised the immediate 12-point penalty and the further six-point penalty reported in connection with missed payment obligations. The separate 15-point deduction was waived after completion; it was not part of that 18-point total.

That sequence also explains why a reported bid value or prominent investor name alone could not settle the question of who would own Wednesday: the process continued after Bord’s group withdrew, and Arise’s preferred-bidder status preceded the eventual completion.
