James Bord’s consortium withdrew its bid for Sheffield Wednesday on 25 February 2026. The club later completed a sale to Arise Capital Partners LLC, led by David Storch alongside Michael Storch and Tom Costin. The EFL confirmed completion on 2 May 2026, ending the club’s administration and waiving a further 15-point deduction. The club’s 16 May retained list also confirmed eight contract-end departures and five loan returns.

What happened to James Bord’s takeover bid?

Bord’s consortium withdrew its bid on 25 February 2026. On 10 March, Sheffield Wednesday named Arise Capital Partners LLC its preferred bidder. The EFL confirmed on 2 May that the sale to Arise had completed, with David Storch leading the group alongside Michael Storch and Tom Costin. The club met League requirements and was no longer in administration, the EFL said. It also decided not to impose the further 15-point deduction that could otherwise have followed the club’s exit from administration. EFL completion announcement

How long did EFL ratification take?

There is no fixed EFL approval deadline established for this transaction. EFL guidance says acquisitions of control are subject to requirements from both the EFL and the Independent Football Regulator. Timing depends on the case, including the number of investors, ownership structure, origin of investment, senior roles, and how regulatory requirements interact. EFL owners and directors guidance

For Sheffield Wednesday, 53 calendar days elapsed between the club naming Arise preferred bidder on 10 March and the EFL confirming completion on 2 May 2026. That is the elapsed time between those two public announcements—not a published processing statistic, service standard, or promised approval period. Which Sheffield Wednesday exits were confirmed?

The club’s 16 May 2026 retained-list announcement separated players leaving at contract end from loanees returning to their parent clubs. These are different outcomes: the first concerns expiring Sheffield Wednesday contracts; the second ends a loan spell and does not itself establish a permanent transfer. Players leaving at contract end

  • Nathaniel Chalobah
  • Harry Evers
  • Dominic Iorfa
  • Junior Kamwa
  • Marvelous Nakamba
  • Favour Onukwuli
  • Rio Shipston
  • Zain Silcott-Duberry

Loan players returning to parent clubs

  • Tayo Adaramola
  • Murphy Cooper
  • Jaden Heskey
  • Joel Ndala
  • Jerry Yates

Situations not listed as confirmed exits

The same announcement said discussions with Max Lowe were ongoing. Mackenzie Maltby and Gui Siqueira were invited back to pre-season training with a view to potentially extending their stays. The club did not identify any of these three as confirmed departures in that list.

Who was retained, offered a contract or extended?

The retained list recorded several other contract decisions, which should not be confused with the confirmed exits above:

  • Options exercised: George Brown, Joe Emery, Svante Ingelsson, Cole McGhee, Denny Oliver, Liam Palmer, Logan Stretch, and Ernie Weaver.
  • Automatic extension triggered: Jamal Lowe.
  • New contracts offered: Liam Cooper, Bruno Fernandes, Reece Johnson, Devlan Moses, Jack Phillips, and Jarvis Thornton.

What the EFL said about the period

EFL Chief Executive Trevor Birch said: “The recent period leading up to and following Administration has been an extremely testing time for the Club, and all associated with Sheffield Wednesday, particularly the players, coaching staff, club employees and supporters.” EFL statement

How current is the exits list?

The departures above are those named in the club’s 16 May retained-list announcement. That announcement does not establish whether additional exits were confirmed later in the 2026 summer transfer window, so it should not be treated as a complete list of every subsequent registration or transfer.
