David Storch’s Sheffield Wednesday takeover is complete, not still awaiting a fresh step to seal the deal. Arise Capital Partners LLC, the consortium led by Storch, acquired the club’s assets in May 2026. The EFL announced the new ownership on 2 May; the joint administrators at BTG confirmed the sale’s completion on 5 May.

Who owns Sheffield Wednesday now?

Arise Capital Partners LLC acquired Sheffield Wednesday’s assets. The EFL described Arise as a consortium led by David Storch, alongside Michael Storch and Tom Costin. Its 2 May announcement said the club was under new ownership and was no longer regarded by the league as being in administration. EFL statement, 2 May 2026

BTG, the joint administrators, confirmed on 5 May that the sale had successfully completed. The two dates mark different steps: the EFL’s announcement of the agreement and new ownership, followed by the administrators’ confirmation that the sale was complete. BTG completion notice, 5 May 2026

What the takeover means for the club’s points and spending

The EFL said it would not impose a further 15-point deduction following Sheffield Wednesday’s exit from administration. It also set conditions on the club’s finances and recruitment:

  • Budget restriction: The EFL said the club would be subject to a budget restriction for the next two seasons.
  • Player registrations: The club could sign new players in line with an agreed business plan, and registration applications had to comply with that plan.
  • Starting points: BTG said the club would begin the upcoming season on zero points and that wage and transfer parameters had been agreed.

These are the terms described by the EFL and BTG in their respective announcements; they do not establish the club’s later financial performance or future transfer activity. EFL statement · BTG completion notice

What David Storch said after the sale

In BTG’s completion announcement, Storch spoke on behalf of Arise Capital Partners LLC: “Sheffield Wednesday deserves stability, ambition and a clear direction. That is what we are here to deliver.” He also said: “From the very beginning, this has been about more than an acquisition. It has been about responsibility – to the Club, to its history, and most importantly to its supporters.”

BTG Managing Partner Kris Wigfield said: “From day one, our objective was clear – to protect this football club and to secure its future.” These are statements of intent in the administrators’ announcement, not independent measures of what the new owners have since achieved. Why Companies House filings do not by themselves show a change of ownership

Companies House’ filing history for Sheffield Wednesday Football Club Limited includes administration-related entries after the sale, including an administration extension notice filed on 30 August 2026. The record also lists a creditors’ meeting result dated 16 July and an administrator progress report dated 2 June. Companies House filing history

Those entries are company-record filings; on their own, they do not show that ownership of the club reverted after the asset transfer. The EFL’s statement concerns the club’s status in its competition and says the club was no longer regarded as being in administration after the transfer. These records do not, by themselves, establish the precise legal status of every related company or stadium-owning entity.
