Who bought Sheffield Wednesday?
Arise Capital Partners LLC completed its purchase of Sheffield Wednesday in May 2026. The club’s joint administrators confirmed completion on 5 May, identifying David Storch, Michael Storch and Tom Costin as the people behind Arise. BBC Sport had reported the sale on 2 May and said Chansiri’s ownership had ended. The administrators’ completion announcement is the primary confirmation.
This is a completed change of ownership, not a takeover still awaiting a buyer. The administrators said the EFL Board exercised discretion not to apply the 15-point deduction that would otherwise have applied when the club exited administration, leaving Wednesday to begin the upcoming season on zero points.
What happened during the takeover process?
- 24 October 2025: The EFL said it had received formal notice that then-director Dejphon Chansiri had taken steps to appoint administrators to Sheffield Wednesday and the company that owns Hillsborough. The EFL said administration triggered an automatic 12-point deduction under its regulations. The EFL statement set out the league’s position.
- 10 March 2026: The administrators named Arise Capital Partners LLC as preferred bidder after the previous preferred bidder withdrew. They said Arise had provided a substantial deposit and evidence of funds, and described an exclusivity agreement that covered funding trading losses if completion had not occurred after eight weeks. Their update also said the offer would not deliver unsecured creditors 25 pence in the pound. The administrators’ update described the proposal at that stage.
- 2–5 May 2026: BBC Sport reported that Arise had bought the club on 2 May; the joint administrators announced completion on 5 May.
The 12-point deduction and the 15-point deduction are separate decisions at different stages: the EFL said administration triggered the former, while the administrators later said the EFL Board chose not to impose the latter on exit from administration.

Did Mike Ashley buy Sheffield Wednesday?
No. BBC Sport included Mike Ashley among the reported bidders, and Sky Sports reported that his representatives had been in contact with the administrators. Those reports establish historical interest and contact during the sale process, not a successful bid or completed ownership. Arise was the buyer named in the completion announcement.
