The Economic Times attributes that five-year rate to Suryoday Small Finance Bank, but a current official Suryoday rate sheet confirming it was not available in the sources reviewed. Treat 8.50% as a reported maximum—not a rate guaranteed for every customer or tenure—and verify the bank’s current terms before booking.
Which bank is reported to offer 8.50% to senior citizens?
The Economic Times, in a report updated 3 October 2026, says Suryoday Small Finance Bank offers senior citizens 8.50% on a five-year FD. Moneycontrol also reports a maximum of 8.50% across Equitas, ESAF and Suryoday Small Finance Banks, but does not establish that all three offer that rate on the same tenure or deposit terms. These are secondary reports, not confirmation of a currently bookable offer. Check Suryoday’s live rate sheet and the rate shown at booking before relying on the figure.
The Economic Times report and Moneycontrol’s reported maxima provide useful leads, but a headline maximum is not a like-for-like comparison.
What reported rates are available for comparison?
The figures below come from different sources and do not all describe the same tenure, amount slab, or product conditions. Use them as reported reference points, not as a ranking of equivalent FDs.

Why the headline rate may not match your FD
FD rates depend on more than the depositor’s age. Before comparing offers, match the details that determine eligibility and the amount of interest you will actually receive.

Who qualifies for the senior-citizen rate?
Eligibility is bank-specific. The official terms reviewed for Suryoday say the additional senior-citizen interest requires the depositor to be at least 60 and to select the senior-citizen option. ESAF’s deposit policy says its additional rate applies only when the first depositor is a senior citizen; the policy does not state ESAF’s current October 2026 rate.
PNB defines senior citizens as people aged 60 to under 80 and super seniors as people aged 80 or above. ICICI says its senior-citizen rates apply only to domestic FDs. Do not assume another bank uses the same age, residency, or account-holder rules.

How to verify the rate before booking
- Open the bank’s official FD rate page and select the right customer category, deposit amount, tenure, and withdrawal option.
- Confirm that the rate applies to your residency status and account-holder arrangement, including any first-depositor requirement.
- Check the effective date, premature-closure rules, payout method, and stated yield or maturity value.
- Review the rate and terms displayed when you book. HDFC Bank says the applicable rate is the one on the date and time it receives the funds, and that rates may change without prior notice.
For reference, the official pages cited here include ICICI Bank’s FD rate page, PNB’s deposit rate table, Central Bank of India’s deposit rates, Bank of India’s rupee term deposit rates, and HDFC Bank’s FD interest rate page. Suryoday’s published terms describe the age and selection requirements for its senior-citizen option, but do not verify the reported 8.50% rate: Suryoday terms. ESAF’s policy describes its first-depositor condition but does not confirm its current rate: ESAF deposit policy.
