Aloft, a Seattle residential-appraisal startup, raised a $20 million Series A in November 2021 led by Fifth Wall. The round brought the company’s disclosed funding to $25 million and attracted backers including Andreessen Horowitz, MetaProp, former Zillow CEO Spencer Rascoff, Built CEO Chase Gilbert, and DoorDash executive Gokul Rajaram.
Aloft was later acquired by Inspectify in an all-cash deal announced on February 26, 2025. The acquisition price was not disclosed, and Aloft’s former website now redirects to Appraisify, a valuation business presented as part of the combined operation.

What Aloft raised—and when
Aloft announced its $20 million Series A on November 18, 2021. Fifth Wall, a venture firm focused on technology for the built environment, led the financing. Aloft had previously raised a seed round led by Andreessen Horowitz in March 2021, bringing its disclosed total funding to $25 million after the Series A.

At the time, Aloft was headquartered in Seattle, operated in Seattle and Portland, and had a 45-person team. The company said it served dozens of large national and smaller regional lenders. GeekWire’s funding report covered the round, the company’s founders, its product, and its expansion plans.
The appraisal bottleneck Aloft targeted
Residential appraisals are a critical part of many mortgage purchases and refinances. A typical workflow can involve assigning an appraiser, scheduling a property inspection, collecting property and comparable-sales information, preparing a compliant report, completing quality checks, and delivering the result into a lender’s systems.
That makes appraisal a natural target for workflow software. Delays or coordination problems can hold up underwriting and closing, while lenders must still receive documentation that meets their internal, investor, and regulatory requirements.

It was trying to coordinate the human and software components of a lender-facing appraisal process.
How Aloft’s technology worked
Aloft said its platform could produce an appraisal quote in about two minutes. That figure referred to the quote or ordering stage—not the completion of a full appraisal report.
The company’s model also was not described as a fully automated valuation system. Aloft appraisers performed the physical home inspections, while the technology helped coordinate the work and connect it with lender systems. The company said it offered direct integrations with lenders and intended to improve the speed and accuracy of the overall process.

- Quote and order coordination: Lenders could receive an appraisal quote quickly.
- Human inspections: Appraisers still inspected homes as part of the process.
- Lender integrations: Aloft connected its workflow directly with lender systems.
- Network expansion: The company planned to grow beyond its initial Seattle and Portland markets.
This distinction matters. Appraisal workflow software, human appraisal services, hybrid appraisals, appraisal-management companies, and automated valuation models are related but different categories. The available reporting does not establish that Aloft replaced appraisers with artificial intelligence.
Why the investor group mattered
Aloft’s backers combined financial capital with experience in technology, lending, brokerage, and real estate operations.
Fifth Wall, the lead investor, focuses on technology for the built environment and says its network includes major real-estate owner-operators. That type of investor can offer more than funding: it may provide industry relationships, customer introductions, and insight into how real-estate businesses buy software.
Andreessen Horowitz’s earlier seed investment suggested that the opportunity could be viewed as software infrastructure, not merely as a local appraisal-services business. Other reported investors included:
- Spencer Rascoff, former CEO of Zillow Group;
- Chase Gilbert, CEO of Built Technologies;
- MetaProp, a real-estate technology venture firm; and
- Gokul Rajaram, a DoorDash executive and board member at Coinbase and Pinterest.
The mix was notable because appraisal sits at the intersection of mortgage lending, property data, real-estate transactions, and software operations. Investors with expertise in those areas could potentially help Aloft win enterprise customers and navigate a highly specialized market.

What Aloft planned to do with the money
Aloft said it would use the funding to expand its appraisal platform, build its technology team, support lender integrations, and scale its appraiser and operating network.

In a hiring announcement shared by co-founder Yongxing Deng, the company discussed plans to quadruple its engineering team and hire a product manager, designer, engineering manager, and data scientist. Those details came from a founder’s LinkedIn post rather than an audited use-of-funds statement.
Expansion was strategically important, but it also carried operational challenges. A national appraisal platform needs sufficient local coverage, qualified professionals, quality-control systems, consistent turnaround times, lender trust, and compliance processes. Those requirements are more difficult to scale than a conventional software subscription.
The size of the opportunity—and its limits
Aloft estimated the residential appraisal industry at approximately $10 billion. That was the company’s estimate, not an independently verified market-size measurement.

- Valuations are important to many financed residential transactions.
- Lenders need standardized documentation and reliable delivery.
- Ordering, scheduling, inspection, revisions, and quality control create opportunities for workflow automation.
- The market includes many local and regional participants, creating potential value in aggregation.
- Appraisal and inspection data may be useful in adjacent mortgage, insurance, underwriting, and property-management workflows.
There are also meaningful constraints. Faster ordering does not automatically mean a more accurate valuation. A software platform must balance speed with appraisal independence, documentation, quality assurance, and the requirements of lenders and investors. Rural, luxury, unusual, multifamily, and otherwise difficult-to-value properties can also require more specialized handling.
The broader lesson is that real-estate technology is shaped by regulation, local market conditions, capital markets, and labor-intensive operations—not just by the quality of an app.

What happened to Aloft after the funding
Inspectify announced on February 26, 2025, that it had acquired Aloft in an all-cash transaction. The terms were not disclosed. About 30 Aloft employees joined Inspectify, which expected its combined workforce to reach 80.
Inspectify said the combined company would offer inspection, underwriting, and valuation services to more than 300 existing clients. The companies had collaborated for several years before the acquisition, giving the deal a strategic logic beyond a simple change of ownership: a customer could potentially obtain several connected property and transaction services from one provider.
The 2025 acquisition report also noted that Deng had left Aloft in 2023. He should not be described as a current executive of the business.
Because the purchase price and cap table were not disclosed, it is impossible to determine whether Aloft’s investors made a profit, recovered their investment, or received any particular return.

What this means for lenders and PropTech investors
Aloft’s story illustrates why appraisal technology attracted heavyweight investors: the workflow is important to lending, operationally inefficient in places, and connected to valuable property data.
It also shows why a standalone appraisal platform may eventually benefit from adjacent services. Inspection and valuation involve overlapping property information, field networks, lender relationships, and compliance requirements. Combining them can make a platform more useful to enterprise customers, although it also increases operational complexity.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFor a lender evaluating a provider such as Appraisify or Inspectify, the relevant questions are practical:
- Is coverage available for the states and property types the lender serves?
- Does the provider support full, desktop, hybrid, or exterior-only products?
- Are appraisers and inspectors properly qualified for the assignment?
- How does the vendor integrate with the lender’s systems?
- What quality-control, revision, audit, and escalation processes are available?
- Are turnaround times contractual service levels or merely marketing targets?
- Who owns the underlying reports and data, and can the lender export them?
- Does pricing reflect individual orders, a platform subscription, or an enterprise agreement?
No public pricing was identified in the supplied company materials, so the offering is best understood as an enterprise, quote-based service rather than a transparent self-serve product for individual homeowners.
