Sand Hill Road Technologies Fund was described in a February 2023 Tech Times profile as a selective, technology-focused private fund combining human judgment with technology. That article offers little evidence to assess the claim: it names no investments, tools, performance figures, or fund executives. SEC filings and the fund’s current website establish that related entities and an adviser exist, but they do not show whether the fund has strong returns, what it currently charges, or who can invest.
What the Tech Times article actually says
The article, published February 9, 2023, and attributed to David Thompson, presents the fund as focused mainly on later-stage technology companies and pre-IPO opportunities. It says the fund works with private-equity and angel investors, cultivates relationships with high-growth startups, and is based in Palo Alto, California, and Miami, Florida. It also calls the fund member-only and selective and describes an ambition to advance technology globally.

Its short profile format contains no visible interviews, cited data, methodology, or independent analysis. It ends by directing readers to the fund’s website. That structure and its favorable language are consistent with promotional coverage, but the available information does not establish whether the piece was paid for or sponsored. It is not a substitute for due-diligence reporting.

In particular, the article does not identify portfolio companies, explain the fund’s investment process, or define what “innovative technologies” means in practice. Phrases such as “industry leader” and “top of its game” are not tied to a ranking, measurable record, or third-party assessment.
What public filings establish—and what they do not
A 2022 SEC Form D names Sand Hill Road Technologies Fund, gives Florida as its jurisdiction, identifies Robert Hodgins as an executive officer, and classifies the offering under investing. A Form D is a notice associated with an exempt securities offering, not an SEC review or approval. The filing expressly says the Commission had not reviewed the information and that readers should not assume it is accurate or complete. It is not an investment recommendation and cannot establish profitability, suitability, or the accuracy of marketing claims.
#1 Best Overall
A 2023 Form D for Sand Hill Road Technologies Fund XV reported a $25,000 minimum investment and named Robert Hodgins as manager. That is a historical figure for that filing and vehicle; it does not establish the current minimum for Fund XV or any other related fund. Later filings identify multiple vehicles or classes using the name, including Sand Hill Road Technologies Fund LLC – Class I. Do not assume these are interchangeable or share the same terms.
The SEC adviser database lists Sand Hill Road Technologies Fund Management LLC as an active exempt reporting adviser, effective December 5, 2025. The SEC AdviserInfo record says the firm was not currently registered and was not currently notice-filed, while reporting exempt reporting adviser status with the SEC and Florida. Exempt reporting adviser status is distinct from full SEC investment-adviser registration and broker-dealer registration. It is not an SEC endorsement of the fund.

Rank #2
The fund’s website identifies Robert Hodgins as founder and lists Miami and Palo Alto addresses and a phone contact. Addresses establish published contact information, not the scale or operation of offices. The site’s public materials do not provide enough detail to assess the fund’s portfolio, audited performance, fees, risk terms, current minimum, or investor qualifications.
What “human insights plus technology” might mean
The phrase could describe several parts of an investment process, but neither the 2023 article nor the public website clearly identifies tools the fund uses. Human judgment might mean evaluating founders, conducting interviews, drawing on industry relationships, or assessing competition and management quality. Technology could mean databases for screening private companies, financial-analysis tools, market-intelligence services, portfolio-monitoring systems, or investor-administration software. These are possible interpretations, not verified characteristics of this fund.
Rank #3
To make the claim assessable, a prospective investor would need to ask what data the fund uses and whether technology affects sourcing, screening, valuation, diligence, monitoring, or only administration. Ask which decisions remain human-controlled, whether outside data vendors are involved, and how the manager handles stale or incomplete private-company data, model bias, and confidential information. A useful demonstration would show how a tool informs a decision and how an investment committee or other decision-makers review its output; public materials do not establish that such a process exists.
What the available information does not establish
The article and public records cited here do not establish the fund’s assets under management, total capital raised, number or identity of portfolio companies, returns, realized exits, or distributions to investors. They also do not disclose its fee and carried-interest structure, current minimum commitment, present availability to new investors, or investor-eligibility requirements. The meaning of “member-only” is not explained.
Nor do the public materials identify proprietary technology, artificial intelligence, a formal investment committee, outside advisers, or a measurable basis for the fund’s “industry leader” positioning. Those details should not be inferred from the headline or the existence of regulatory filings.

Private-market exposure is not automatically an advantage. Late-stage and pre-IPO investments can be difficult to value, illiquid, and subject to delayed or absent exits. Technology can help organize information, but cannot eliminate incomplete financial data, inconsistent valuations, biased datasets, promotional claims, survivorship bias, or overreliance on recent funding rounds.
Best Value
Before evaluating any offering, identify the exact vehicle and obtain its current offering and governing documents. The following checklist focuses on questions the public profile does not answer:
Fund, manager, and governance
- What is the exact legal name of the fund, class, general partner, and manager? Which entity is accepting the investment?
- What are the fund’s domicile and governing documents? Who are the manager, administrator, auditor, custodian, and legal counsel?
- What adviser status applies to the exact manager, and what regulatory disclosures or disciplinary history should be reviewed?
Strategy and portfolio
- Is the strategy venture, growth equity, late-stage, pre-IPO, or secondary investing? Which sectors and geographies does it target?
- What are typical check sizes, ownership targets, follow-on policies, concentration limits, expected holding periods, and exit assumptions?
- What investments have been made, how are private holdings valued, and what evidence supports the stated process?
Economics, performance, and liquidity
- What are the management fee, carried interest, organizational and administration expenses, and any subscription, transfer, or redemption charges?
- What are the capital-call obligations, preferred return or hurdle if any, distribution waterfall, lock-up, transfer restrictions, and tax-reporting arrangements?
- Request gross and net internal rates of return, multiple on invested capital, distributed-to-paid-in capital, vintage comparisons, and audited financial statements. Separate realized results from unrealized valuation changes and ask how benchmarks are selected.
- Can an investor transfer an interest or exit early? How long might capital remain committed, and can the investor afford a total loss?
Eligibility and terms
- What accredited-investor or qualified-purchaser criteria apply, if any, and what is the current minimum for the specific vehicle?
- Is the offering currently accepting commitments? Confirm all terms in current documents rather than relying on an older Form D or a public profile.
Why entity and date checks matter
The names Sand Hill Road Technologies Fund, Sand Hill Road Technologies Fund XV, Sand Hill Road Technologies Fund LLC – Class I, and Sand Hill Road Technologies Fund Management LLC refer to distinct offerings, classes, or an adviser in the records cited above. A fact about one should not automatically be assigned to another. Similarly, the 2023 minimum is not a current price quote. The 2023 profile predates the 2025 adviser database entry and later class filings, so it cannot describe every subsequent development.
