What happened at Rumo’s Rondonópolis station
Reuters reported that Rumo said a conveyor belt at the station caught fire in the early hours of Thursday, January 30. The company’s reported update was that the fire had been controlled and operations had resumed normally. The report did not give a fuller timeline of the incident or recovery. Reuters report republished by Agriculture.com / Successful Farming, January 31, 2025.
The report does not state the cause of the fire, the extent of equipment or cargo damage, whether anyone was injured, which parts of the station were affected, or whether an investigation followed. It also does not establish any effect on export shipments.
Why the station matters to grain shipments
The incident occurred during Brazil’s soybean harvest and as seasonal shipments to importers such as China were beginning, Reuters reported. That timing provides context, but it does not show that the fire delayed or reduced shipments.

Reuters also attributed the station’s estimated daily activity to Vanin—not to Rumo: 1,500–2,000 trucks and roughly 60,000–80,000 tons per day. These are analyst estimates, not audited facility figures or company-confirmed statistics.
