Chaintech’s March 2025 forecast was directionally close, but it was not Nvidia’s confirmed retail launch schedule. The GeForce RTX 5060 Ti reached stores on April 16, 2025, followed by the RTX 5060 on May 19. Nvidia’s final starting prices were $379 for the RTX 5060 Ti 8GB, $429 for the 16GB version, and $299 for the RTX 5060.
The forecast mattered because Nvidia’s mainstream cards were expected to compete with AMD’s forthcoming Radeon RX 9060-series products. However, the reported reference to higher average selling prices was a supplier business signal—not an official Nvidia price prediction.

What Chaintech actually forecast
The story began with a Chaintech financial presentation or revenue forecast, as reported by PCWorld and other technology outlets. Chaintech is a component and manufacturing supplier, not Nvidia, so its forecast could reflect shipments to board partners, OEM integration, or channel availability rather than a worldwide retail launch.
In other words, “arrive in March” did not necessarily mean consumers could buy RTX 5060-series cards in stores that month. Nvidia had not officially confirmed the date when the report appeared, and retail availability could still have slipped into April or May.

The forecast was therefore neither a fabricated rumor nor a confirmed launch announcement. It was an early supplier expectation that anticipated the product family several weeks before Nvidia’s final retail schedule.
What “higher average selling prices” meant
Average selling price (ASP) is a financial metric: the average revenue received per unit sold over a period. It is not the same as an MSRP, the lowest retail listing, or the price of one particular graphics card.
Chaintech’s reported ASP signal could have referred to several things:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Higher-value Nvidia products than in the previous product mix.
- A greater share of RTX 5060 Ti shipments, particularly 16GB models.
- More expensive board-partner designs with upgraded coolers or factory overclocks.
- Chaintech’s own OEM, component, or manufacturing business rather than consumer retail prices.
- A broader Nvidia product portfolio rather than only the RTX 5060 and RTX 5060 Ti.
The exact presentation, methodology, and any precise ASP figure were not independently verified in the available authoritative reporting. It would therefore be inaccurate to turn the comment into a firm prediction that Nvidia would charge a particular amount.
Did the RTX 5060 cards launch in March?
No. The final retail schedule was later than Chaintech’s reported forecast:

| GPU | Official availability | Starting price | Memory |
|---|---|---|---|
| GeForce RTX 5060 Ti | April 16, 2025 | $379 | 8GB or 16GB GDDR7 |
| GeForce RTX 5060 | May 19, 2025 | $299 | 8GB GDDR7 |
Nvidia announced the desktop family on April 15, 2025, saying the RTX 5060 Ti would be available the following day and that the RTX 5060 would arrive in May. Nvidia later confirmed May 19 for the RTX 5060 in its launch announcement.
These were official starting prices, not guarantees that every board-partner model would sell for those amounts. Cooler design, factory clock speeds, size, power limits, retailer margins, taxes, and local supply could all change the final price.

Why AMD was part of the story
The RTX 5060 family targeted Nvidia’s mainstream gaming segment, where price, memory capacity, and availability are especially important. AMD had already announced its higher-tier Radeon RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT on February 28, 2025, and had signaled that lower-cost RDNA 4 products would follow.
That made AMD’s prospective RX 9060 series the obvious competitive concern. Nvidia would have benefited from putting its mainstream Blackwell cards into the channel before AMD’s lower-priced Radeon cards reached buyers.
The chronology ultimately weakened the idea of a dramatic pre-emption:

- June 5, 2025: AMD listed RX 9060 XT availability beginning on this date.
Nvidia did get the RTX 5060 Ti to market before AMD announced its direct mainstream competitor. But the RTX 5060 reached buyers only one day before AMD’s RX 9060 XT announcement, so the “steal AMD’s spotlight” framing was only partly borne out.

How AMD’s RX 9060 XT compared on paper
AMD announced the Radeon RX 9060 XT in two configurations:
| Product | Memory | AMD stated price |
|---|---|---|
| RX 9060 XT | 8GB GDDR6 | $299 |
| RX 9060 XT | 16GB GDDR6 | $349 |
AMD listed 32 compute units, a 128-bit memory interface, and up to a 3.13GHz boost clock. It positioned the card for 1440p gaming and highlighted FSR 4, RDNA 4 ray tracing, and HYPR-RX.
On announced pricing, the RX 9060 XT 8GB matched the RTX 5060’s $299 starting price. The RX 9060 XT 16GB was listed $30 below the RTX 5060 Ti 8GB and $80 below the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB.

Those figures do not establish a performance winner. Nvidia and AMD use different architectures, memory technologies, and software ecosystems, while actual results vary by game, resolution, ray-tracing settings, and upscaling mode. MSRP and AMD’s suggested equitable price also do not guarantee sustained retail pricing.

8GB versus 16GB
Eight gigabytes may be adequate for many 1080p games, especially at sensible settings, but it can become restrictive with high-resolution textures, ray tracing, newer AAA releases, or a multi-year ownership plan. The 16GB RTX 5060 Ti and RX 9060 XT provide more memory headroom, although paying more for memory is worthwhile only if the total price remains competitive with faster alternatives.
1080p versus 1440p
The RTX 5060 and RX 9060 XT 8GB occupy the more budget-conscious 1080p class. Buyers targeting 1440p, high texture settings, or a longer upgrade cycle should examine 16GB models first. The right choice still depends on independent game testing rather than specifications alone.
Upscaling and frame generation
DLSS 4 and FSR 4 can increase displayed frame rates in supported games, but frame-generation output is not equivalent to native rendering performance. Latency, image quality, game support, and implementation quality matter. Buyers should compare native performance and upscaled performance separately.

Nvidia’s Blackwell feature stack and software ecosystem may be especially valuable for buyers who prioritize ray tracing, DLSS, CUDA-dependent applications, Nvidia Studio, or Nvidia-specific AI tools. AMD’s FSR 4 and broader open-oriented ecosystem may appeal to different users. Neither choice should be made from a single feature label.

Power, size, and actual price
A compact PC may require a short, dual-slot card even if a larger triple-fan model is cheaper. Check the individual card’s dimensions, power connector, recommended power supply, cooler, warranty, and return policy. The same GPU name can cover materially different products.
Laptop RTX 5060 products are a separate category and should not be confused with these desktop launch dates.
Timeline of the rumor and launches

- April 15, 2025: Nvidia officially announced the RTX 5060 desktop family.
- April 16, 2025: RTX 5060 Ti launched at $379 for 8GB and $429 for 16GB.
- May 19, 2025: RTX 5060 launched at $299.
- May 20, 2025: AMD announced the RX 9060 XT at $299 for 8GB and $349 for 16GB.
- June 5, 2025: AMD listed RX 9060 XT availability beginning on this date.
Verdict
Chaintech’s March forecast was an early and reasonably close supplier signal, but it was not Nvidia’s official retail launch date. Nvidia ultimately used a staggered rollout: the RTX 5060 Ti launched in April, while the RTX 5060 followed in May.
The higher-ASP reference should be read as a business forecast with several possible meanings, not as a precise consumer-price prediction. Nvidia’s final prices were $379 and $429 for the RTX 5060 Ti variants and $299 for the RTX 5060.
Nvidia did reach the market before AMD’s RX 9060 XT announcement, but only narrowly in the RTX 5060’s case. For buyers, the more important questions were—and remain—the 8GB-versus-16GB trade-off, real retail pricing, game-specific performance, software needs, and whether the chosen card fits the intended PC.
