Deal status: expired. During Black Friday 2025, retailers discounted Apple’s 2025 11-inch iPad with an A16 chip to about $274–$279. The deal applied to the 128GB Wi‐Fi model, which originally sold for $349—not to every iPad configuration and not as a current Apple Store promotion.
At $279, the savings were $70, or about 20.1%. At the lowest reported price of $274, the savings were $75, or approximately 21.5%. That makes the “over 20 percent off” claim accurate for the specific configuration and retailer price, but this is now historical deal coverage rather than a live offer.

Deal snapshot
| Detail | Black Friday 2025 offer |
|---|---|
| Model | 2025 11-inch iPad with A16 chip, also called the 11th-generation iPad |
| Configuration | 128GB, Wi‐Fi |
| Regular price | $349 |
| Reported sale prices | $279 initially; approximately $274 in a later update |
| Reported retailers | Amazon, with comparable coverage involving Best Buy, Walmart and Target |
| Status | Black Friday 2025 promotion ended |
MacRumors reported the iPad at $279, while later deal coverage reported an approximately $274 Amazon price. Retail prices, colors and inventory changed during the promotion, so neither price should be treated as a universal offer. The discount came primarily from retailers rather than Apple reducing its own checkout price.

Was it really more than 20% off?
Yes, but the exact percentage depended on the price:

| Regular price | Sale price | Savings | Discount |
|---|---|---|---|
| $349 | $279 | $70 | 20.1% |
| $349 | $274 | $75 | 21.5% |
The calculation is ($349 − sale price) ÷ $349 × 100. A $299 price, by comparison, would represent only about 14.3% off. That is why the storage, connectivity and retailer matter when evaluating the headline.

What the base iPad does not include
This is an affordable general-purpose iPad, not a lower-priced replacement for the iPad Air or iPad Pro. It lacks ProMotion, P3 wide color, an antireflective coating and the more advanced display technologies found on Apple’s premium models.
It also does not support Apple Pencil Pro. Apple’s current product presentation distinguishes the base A16 iPad from the iPad Air and iPad Pro on Apple Intelligence support; buyers who primarily want Apple’s AI features should consider an iPad Air or iPad Pro instead. Availability of software features can depend on hardware, operating system, language and region.
The USB-C port is limited to USB 2.0 transfer speeds of up to 480Mb/s. Wi‐Fi models also have no cellular connection. Finally, the $274–$279 tablet price did not include optional accessories: a Pencil, keyboard, protective case or cellular service can substantially increase the total cost.

Is 128GB enough?
For streaming, browsing, email, schoolwork, video calls, reading, light gaming and cloud-based workflows, 128GB is generally the sensible entry point. It is also more practical than the 64GB storage found on some older base iPads.

A 256GB or 512GB model may be a better long-term choice, but the Black Friday discount described here should not be assumed to apply to those configurations.
Who should have bought it?
At $274–$279, the 128GB Wi‐Fi model was a strong value for students, families, travelers and anyone wanting an inexpensive current iPad for everyday tasks. The A16 chip provided ample headroom for streaming, web use, note-taking, casual gaming and basic productivity without paying iPad Air or Pro prices.

It was less compelling for professional video editing, 3D work, demanding graphics, sustained multitasking or buyers planning to use Apple Pencil Pro. Buyers needing mobile data also had to compare the higher price of the cellular model with using an iPhone hotspot.

iPad Air
The iPad Air is the logical upgrade for buyers who need more performance headroom, Apple Intelligence, Apple Pencil Pro support, a more capable accessory ecosystem or a better display. It costs more, but the gap may be easier to justify once a keyboard, Pencil and long-term use are included.
iPad mini
The iPad mini is the portability choice, not the budget choice. Its smaller screen suits reading, travel, one-handed use and compact gaming, but Apple’s lineup has positioned it above the entry-level iPad in starting price.

Apple Certified Refurbished
For readers who missed Black Friday, Apple’s refurbished store listed an A16 128GB Wi‐Fi iPad at $299, marked down from $349, when checked in August 2026. Refurbished inventory, colors and prices can change, but this was a lower-cost alternative with Apple’s refurbished certification and warranty coverage. See Apple’s Certified Refurbished iPad listings.
What to check when evaluating a similar deal
- Confirm that the listing says 128GB Wi‐Fi, not a different storage or cellular model.
- Check whether the seller is the retailer itself or a third-party marketplace seller.
- Compare the price before tax and shipping.
- Verify the return policy and whether the color you want is in stock.
- Price the accessories separately before deciding that the deal fits your budget.
- Do not confuse an Apple gift-card promotion with a direct cash discount.
Apple’s current lineup and pricing can change. The company’s store showed a new entry-level iPad starting at $449 in August 2026, which is not evidence that the 2025 Black Friday promotion remained available. See Apple’s current iPad buying page for present pricing.
