The 5,696 Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP) vacancies were the original count in Railway Recruitment Boards’ CEN 01/2024—not a current opening. That notice’s application window closed in February 2024, and the vacancy total was later increased to 18,799. A separate CEN 01/2026 listed 11,127 vacancies, but its application window also closed, on 14 June 2026.

What happened to the 5,696 ALP posts?

The figure refers to the original vacancy total in CEN 01/2024. The notice listed the Assistant Loco Pilot role at Pay Level 2, with initial pay of ₹19,900, medical standard A-1, and an age range of 18–30 years as of 1 July 2024. Applications were accepted from 20 January through 19 February 2024. RRB Chandigarh’s official recruitment page links to current and past notice information.

The 2024 total was later enhanced

On 19 June 2024, the Railway Recruitment Board announced that the CEN 01/2024 ALP vacancies had been increased to 18,799 following additional demand from zonal railways. The Chairman, Railway Recruitment Board, stated: “A review has been undertaken in view of additional demand received from Zonal Railways and vacancies of Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP) stands enhanced to 18799.” See the official RRB page for notice links and status information.

How CEN 01/2024 differs from CEN 01/2026

The 2026 notice is a separate recruitment round; its vacancies, dates and age reference date should not be mixed with the 2024 notice.

Notice Vacancies Application period Age reference date Status as of 8 October 2026
CEN 01/2024 5,696 initially; increased to 18,799 on 19 June 2024 20 January–19 February 2024 1 July 2024 Application window closed
CEN 01/2026 11,127 15 May–14 June 2026; fee payment by 16 June 2026 1 July 2026 Application window closed

The detailed CEN 01/2026 notice lists Pay Level 2, initial pay of ₹19,900 and A-1 medical standard. Its age range is 18–30 years as of 1 July 2026, with relaxations addressed separately in the notice.

Is the RRB ALP application link open?

No. The CEN 01/2026 application period ended on 14 June 2026, and its fee-payment deadline was 16 June 2026. The official RRB Chandigarh CEN 01/2026 page is a reference for that closed recruitment and its notices, not an invitation to submit a late application. Check the relevant official RRB website for any later updates or a future recruitment notice.

What candidates needed to check in the 2026 notice

The age range alone does not establish eligibility. The detailed CEN and its annexures contain the educational and technical qualifications, age-relaxation rules, and RRB-wise or railway-wise vacancy distribution. Candidates could select only one RRB and submit one application for the notice. They could indicate railway-zone preferences within that RRB, but the notice said the RRB selection could not be changed after submission.

These are requirements for the 2026 notice, not a guarantee of eligibility or appointment. For a closed application round, use the notice for reference and rely on official RRB websites—not agents, unofficial forms or payment pages—for recruitment information. RRB warns candidates about touts and job racketeers who make false promises.

What the vacancy figures do—and do not—tell you

The notices establish vacancy totals and recruitment terms; they do not establish an applicant’s chance of selection. No attributable applicant-volume or selection-odds statistic is provided in the cited official information. A vacancy count should not be read as a probability of getting a post.
