Rad Power Bikes CEO Phil Molyneux left the company in March 2025, as the Seattle e-bike maker confirmed another round of layoffs and a shift toward physical retail. Rad named Kathi Lentzsch CEO six days later. A subsequent 2026 asset sale changed the company’s ownership, but the available announcements do not establish who currently holds Rad’s CEO title.
Why Phil Molyneux left Rad Power Bikes
GeekWire reported on March 7, 2025, that Molyneux was no longer CEO, citing confirmation from a company spokesperson who said he was “stepping away from the company.” Rad did not give a reason for his departure in that report. The company also confirmed another round of layoffs but did not disclose how many employees were affected or its current headcount. It said the cuts were tied to a strategic pivot toward physical retail and downsizing teams involved in direct-to-consumer operations. GeekWire reported that Rad had raised more than $300 million in 2021 and cited PitchBook for a $1.65 billion valuation that year; those are historical figures, not a measure of the company’s present value. Who replaced him?
When GeekWire published its report, CFO Stephanie Roberts was serving as interim CEO while Rad searched for a permanent leader. On March 13, 2025, Rad announced that Kathi Lentzsch had become CEO. Rad framed the leadership appointment alongside a move away from a predominantly direct-to-consumer model toward physical retail and retail partners. Lentzsch described the company as shifting to a more retail-focused approach in her announcement. The appointment answers who succeeded Molyneux at the time; it does not, by itself, establish who leads the Rad brand today.
What changed after the 2025 leadership shakeup?
On March 5, 2026, Life EV announced that it had completed a court-approved acquisition of Rad Power Bikes assets, including the brand, intellectual property, inventory, and certain operating assets. Life EV said it would continue retail operations under the Rad brand in the United States and planned to expand retail in selected markets. The announcement identifies Rob Provost as Life EV’s CEO and Jim Brown as its president. It does not say that either holds the CEO title at Rad Power Bikes. The available company announcements establish Lentzsch’s 2025 appointment and the 2026 ownership change, but do not confirm Rad’s current CEO after the acquisition.
What the ownership change means for Rad owners
For owners, the clearest practical issue is the purchase date. Rad’s warranty page says the brand came under new ownership on February 27, 2026, and that the former Rad Power Bikes, Inc. filed for Chapter 11 on December 15, 2025. It states that Rad Life Mobility has no obligation to provide warranty or other service for products purchased before December 15, 2025, subject to the bankruptcy process. Rad lists a Safe Shield Advanced External Battery (13 Ah) for certain external-battery Rad models. The listing specifies compatible models and exclusions; it says the battery is not for non-Rad e-bikes and requires an updated Rad charger. Rad warns against using older Rad chargers or third-party and aftermarket chargers with it. Rad Power Bikes’ scale before the shakeup
Rad’s company history says it raised $320,000 within 30 days to begin building the RadRover and reports more than 650,000 riders.
