The later update, reported in February 2026, was that Reading’s ownership group had received approaches from people interested in buying a stake or the club outright. That report did not announce a sale or identify the interested parties.
Couhig’s takeover of Reading FC completed in May 2025
On 3 May 2025, Reading FC announced a sale in principle to Redwood Holdings Limited. The club said the deal included the stadium and Bearwood Park training ground, with completion still subject to final legal technicalities. Redwood was a subsidiary of Dogwood Football LLC, owned by Rob Couhig and Todd Trosclair of New Orleans. Reading FC’s announcement
The transaction was completed on 14 May 2025 after the EFL ratified and cleared it. BBC Sport reported that Redwood acquired 100% of Reading FC’s shareholding; Couhig and Trosclair joined the board, and Couhig became chairman. BBC Sport’s completion report
That distinction matters: the May announcement was initially a sale in principle, but the later report confirmed a completed acquisition. Couhig was the buyer in 2025, not someone still pursuing a takeover in the subsequent reports.

What the February 2026 update said about further offers
In an interview reported by Greatest Hits Radio in February 2026, Reading board member Rick Catania said the ownership group had been approached by parties interested in buying anything from a share to the club outright. He said serious offers were looked at and described the interest as validation that the club’s work was attracting attention. Greatest Hits Radio’s report
The report did not name the interested parties, state offer values, or say that a new transaction had been agreed or completed. It therefore describes approaches to the Couhig-led ownership group—not a continuing bid by Couhig to buy Reading.
What Couhig said about Bearwood Park and the academy
On 2 January 2026, Couhig responded to reports about a possible Bearwood Park sale and an academy downgrade. BBC Sport reported his statement: “There are no plans to sell the training ground and there are no plans to downgrade the academy – both are vital parts of the club’s present and future and any suggestion otherwise is inaccurate and misleading.” BBC Sport’s report
This is Couhig’s stated position at that time, rather than independent confirmation of longer-term plans.

Why the 2025 change of ownership mattered
BBC Sport’s May 2025 report placed the takeover against Reading’s financial difficulties under previous owner Dai Yongge. It reported 18 points in deductions over the club’s preceding three seasons under Yongge, as well as transfer embargoes. It also said the women’s team had fallen from the second tier to the fifth tier following financial problems. The cited reports establish that Couhig and Trosclair’s Redwood Holdings completed the acquisition in May 2025, and that approaches to buy part or all of the club were reported in February 2026. They do not establish whether ownership changed after that report. Without a newer confirmation, it would be inaccurate to present the February 2026 position as Reading’s ownership status on 8 October 2026.
