That made it a potential option for companies beyond the large fleets emphasized in the company’s earlier rollout plan—but the announcement does not establish today’s price, inventory, delivery timing, or exact purchase requirements. Business owners should confirm those details with Rivian Fleet Sales and evaluate charging, upfit, warranty, and operating costs before committing.
What changed in Rivian’s commercial van sales?
On February 10, 2025, Rivian said its fully electric Commercial Van was available for business purchase. The announcement followed a November 7, 2023, post describing a planned U.S. launch in 2024. That earlier post said Rivian would initially prioritize larger fleet requests, begin small-scale deployments in 2024, and scale deliveries in 2025. It was a historical rollout plan, not proof of current order policy. Rivian’s 2025 announcement and its 2023 launch announcement provide the company’s respective statements.
“Available for purchase” does not answer every procurement question. Rivian’s reviewed announcements do not state current prices, configurations, stock, delivery estimates, eligibility rules, or the detailed purchasing process. Ask Fleet Sales for a current written quote and confirmation of the vehicle and terms available to your business.
Which businesses might consider it?
Rivian reported interest from a range of businesses, including plumbers and electricians, delivery services, florists, grocery stores and bakeries, dry cleaners and linen-delivery operators, and dog groomers. This is the company’s account of inquiries, not independent research measuring demand across those industries.

A van may merit consideration when a business has predictable routes, a place to charge, and cargo or equipment needs that fit the vehicle. Before comparing costs, check that the actual configuration meets requirements for payload, cargo access, route length, and daily utilization.
What specifications and features did Rivian describe?
In its November 2023 announcement, Rivian listed these figures for the smaller commercial van size:
| Specification | Rivian’s November 7, 2023 figure |
|---|---|
| Gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) | 9,350 lb |
| Payload | 2,734 lb |
| Wheelbase | 157.5 in |
These are source-dated company specifications, not a verified current order sheet. Confirm the figures and the available configuration for the vehicle being quoted. GVWR is the maximum permitted total vehicle weight; payload is the capacity available for people, cargo, and equipment, so assess the loaded vehicle against the applicable limits.
Rivian also described automatic emergency braking, driver-assistance features, three airbags, and a 360-degree camera displayed on a 15.6-inch center screen. Listed access and comfort features included a curb-side sliding door, rear roll-up door, automated bulkhead door, heated and cooled driver’s seat, and heated steering wheel. The 2023 page does not establish that every item is included in every current configuration; verify equipment in the purchase specification.

Rivian said the van was built on the same platform as its Amazon Electric Delivery Van. In its February 2025 account, the company said its vans had accumulated millions of miles and discussed visibility, driver comfort, connectivity, and software updates based on its experience. These are Rivian’s descriptions, not independent reliability, safety, or performance findings.
How should a business assess charging?
Tom Solomon, Rivian’s Senior Director of B2B Sales & Business Development, said in Rivian’s February 10, 2025 article: “Most customers will use a Level 2 charger, plug-in overnight, and charge to 100%.” He added that Rivian can advise on charging installation and setup. That describes the company’s account of typical customer practice; it is not a guarantee that a particular site, charger, schedule, or duty cycle will work for every fleet.
Before including an electric van in a fleet plan, assess the depot and routes with qualified charging and electrical providers. Rivian’s reviewed material does not specify a charger model, electrical requirements, or a list of compatible third-party chargers.
- Check whether the site has electrical capacity for the planned charging load and what installation work may be needed.
- Map daily mileage, stops, payload, parking hours, and opportunities to recharge against the vehicle configuration Rivian offers.
- Get written estimates for charger equipment, installation, and any necessary electrical upgrades; include those costs in the vehicle comparison.
- Ask Rivian Fleet Sales and the qualified installer to confirm the proposed setup against the vehicle and the business’s operating schedule.
What should buyers know about upfits and warranty?
Rivian says it has partnered with U.S. upfitters and encourages businesses to discuss specific needs with Fleet Sales. Its commercial warranty guide refers to Rivian Preferred Upfit Partners and describes exclusions related to modifications. Before work begins, confirm that the proposed installer and conversion meet Rivian’s current requirements, and get clarity on how the work affects coverage.

Rivian’s Commercial New Vehicle Limited Warranty guide, effective December 31, 2024, says it applies to vehicles sold and registered in the United States, with warranty service in the 50 United States, Washington, D.C., and Canada. The guide lists the following periods; terms, exclusions, exceptions, and state-specific rights apply:
| Coverage listed in the guide | Period stated |
|---|---|
| Drivetrain and battery | 8 years or 100,000 miles, whichever occurs first |
| Comprehensive coverage | 3 years or 36,000 miles |
| Corrosion perforation | 5 years |
| Occupant active restraint systems | 8 years or 100,000 miles |
| Adjustments | 1 year or 12,000 miles |
Check the warranty guide that applies to the vehicle being purchased, including its full terms and exclusions. The guide’s effective date is December 31, 2024; do not assume those terms govern a later sale without confirming them.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How can buyers judge the financial case?
Solomon said cost savings and total cost of ownership are common buyer topics, but Rivian’s February 2025 article gives no vehicle price or quantified savings analysis. The reviewed Rivian pages also do not establish an independently substantiated total-cost-of-ownership advantage. A business needs its own current quotes and operating assumptions rather than a general savings claim.

- Upfit price and any charging equipment, installation, or electrical upgrades.
- Local electricity rates and expected charging schedule, alongside the fuel costs of the vehicles being considered.
- Route length, payload, utilization, and any operational changes needed to accommodate charging.
- Insurance, maintenance assumptions, warranty coverage, and applicable incentives verified for the business and location.
Compare those figures over the same ownership period and usage pattern. Rivian’s announcements do not quantify these inputs or provide a rival-by-rival cost comparison.
What should a fleet compare before ordering?
Compare the van against realistic alternatives using the requirements that affect your routes and budget, not a headline specification alone.
- Capacity and fit: Confirm payload and GVWR, cargo-body dimensions, door access, and the space required for tools or an upfit.
- Routes and charging: Check real operating routes, charging downtime, depot installation costs, and whether the schedule leaves enough time to recharge.
- Acquisition and ownership: Compare vehicle and upfit quotes, maintenance assumptions, insurance, warranty coverage, and verified incentives.
- Workday usability: Assess driver visibility, comfort, loading, and whether the listed equipment fits the job.
- Operations and support: Ask about service coverage and whether the vehicle’s software and fleet-management capabilities meet business needs.
Rivian’s cited pages provide selected specifications and company-described features, but not an independent performance test or a complete comparison with competing commercial vans.
