Redwood Holdings Limited acquired 100% of the club’s shares on 14 May 2025, after English Football League (EFL) clearance. The deal also included the Select Car Leasing Stadium and Bearwood Park training ground. Rob Couhig became chairman, and Todd Trosclair joined the board. BBC Sport reported the completion, which the EFL also listed on 14 May.
Has the Reading FC takeover gone through?
Yes. The sale is no longer pending: Redwood Holdings Limited completed its acquisition of all Reading Football Club shares on 14 May 2025, following EFL clearance. The transaction included the club, its stadium and its Bearwood Park training ground.
The acquisition vehicle was a subsidiary of Dogwood LLC, owned by Rob Couhig and Todd Trosclair. Couhig became chairman and Trosclair joined the board, according to BBC Sport’s completion report.
What happened, and when?
- September 2024: Negotiations on an earlier Couhig attempt broke down, BBC Sport reported.
- 3 May 2025: Reading announced a sale in principle to Redwood Holdings Limited. The club said the EFL had extended Dai Yongge’s share-divestment deadline to the EFL board meeting on 8 May. Reading’s announcement set out the proposed sale.
- 14 May 2025: The EFL cleared the acquisition and the sale completed.
Dai Yongge had been Reading’s majority shareholder since 2017. BBC Sport described his period as owner as marked by financial difficulties and fan protests; those reports provide context, but do not establish the club’s current financial position.

What does the ownership change mean for future takeovers?
Reading’s completed 2025 sale is distinct from the rules that would apply to a future change of control. The EFL says a potential takeover—formally an “acquisition of control”—is subject to requirements of both the EFL and the Independent Football Regulator (IFR). The IFR’s Owners, Directors and Senior Executives regime began on 5 May 2026 and operates alongside the EFL’s Owners’ and Directors’ Test.
Under the framework described in EFL guidance on acquisition of control, the IFR assesses suitability, including integrity, financial soundness, financial resources and competence. The EFL process includes review of future financial information and the ultimate source of funding. These requirements apply to a future change of control or specified leadership appointments; they do not mean that the 2025 sale is unfinished.
