For the iPhone XS Max, it listed PKR 91,110 on passport and PKR 112,871 on CNIC. These are historical figures—not guaranteed current charges. For a registration today, use the amount assessed for your device in DIRBS and shown on its Payment Slip ID (PSID).
What were the July 2023 taxes for iPhone XS and XS Max?
The amounts below are the model-specific figures reported by PhoneWorld on July 15, 2023. “Passport” and “CNIC” refer to the registration routes shown in that report.

PhoneWorld’s July 2023 report is the source for these historical amounts. The table records what that update said; it should not be used as a current payment quote.
Are these the current PTA tax amounts?
Not necessarily. A later secondary guide estimates PKR 5,101 on CNIC and PKR 3,776 on passport for both models, and gives customs values of USD 75 for XS and USD 95 for XS Max. The guide attributes its estimates to an April 2026 valuation ruling, but the ruling and model-specific rupee amounts have not been independently verified against an official FBR schedule. Treat them as estimates, not an official or guaranteed liability. The secondary guide is useful as context, but your device’s current DIRBS assessment and PSID are the relevant figures for payment.

Who sets the tax, and what does PTA do?
“PTA tax” is common shorthand for the charges encountered when registering a phone for use on Pakistan’s mobile networks. The customs duty and tax framework is administered by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR); PTA’s DIRBS system manages device compliance and network access. FBR describes DIRBS as a system that identifies non-compliant devices: compliant devices are automatically registered, while non-compliant devices are eventually blocked. How to check and pay the current amount
For an individual local applicant, the procedure under Customs General Order 01 of 2024 uses the phone’s IMEI and the applicant’s CNIC. The system assesses the amount and generates a PSID. After payment is confirmed, the device is whitelisted in DIRBS.
- Find the phone’s IMEI and check its compliance status using the official DIRBS device-verification system.
- Submit the IMEI and CNIC details through the applicable DIRBS web utility for individual registration.
- Review the assessment and generated PSID. Use the PSID as the payment amount for that application rather than relying on an old rate table or an unverified estimate.
- Pay through an available channel listed in the procedure: online banking, an ATM, mobile banking, or a bank branch.
- Allow payment confirmation to complete; the phone is whitelisted in DIRBS after confirmation.

Passport registration and traveler timing
A passport route is not automatically available to every applicant or overseas Pakistani. Eligibility and the amount that applies depend on current rules and the application details, so confirm them in the official system rather than assuming the lower historical passport figure applies.
Under the 2024 order, travelers may register devices brought in accompanied baggage within 60 days of arrival in Pakistan. After that period, applicable duty and taxes, along with the prescribed fine, apply.

Temporary facility for eligible visitors
The same order describes a temporary facility for eligible overseas Pakistanis and foreign nationals. The applied IMEI is paired with the applicant’s declared mobile number and may be used only with that number. After 120 days, the IMEI is blacklisted for local network service unless handled under the applicable reapplication process. This temporary facility is distinct from permanent registration through payment.
