The KSE-100 reportedly plunged 7,050 points, or 4.6%, to an intraday low of 144,656 before recovering part of the loss and closing at a rounded 146,842. It did not close down 7,000 points: the reported closing decline was 4,864 points, or 3.21%. The session’s date remains uncertain because the news report identifies March 30, 2026, while the official Pakistan Stock Exchange summary available for March 31 shows a matching rounded close.

What happened to the KSE-100?

ProPakistani reported that the KSE-100 fell to 144,656 during the session, a drop of 7,050 points (4.6%), then regained some ground by the close. The outlet reported a closing level of 146,842, down 4,864 points (3.21%). The 7,050-point figure is the reported intraday fall from the prior level, not the closing loss. ProPakistani’s report gives the event figures.

Points describe the index’s level change, while the percentage expresses that change relative to its earlier level. Neither means every listed share fell by the same percentage.

Why did the market fall?

ProPakistani attributed the sell-off to investor panic over negative prospects for the regional situation over the weekend. That is the outlet’s contemporaneous explanation; the available record does not establish regional developments as an independently proven cause of the decline.

What does the official record confirm—and what remains unclear?

The date is not fully reconciled. ProPakistani’s article is timestamped March 30, 2026, at 4:24 pm and calls the session Monday. The PSX closing-rate summary retrieved for Tuesday, March 31, lists the KSE-100 price index at 146,842.97—close to the report’s rounded 146,842—but does not confirm that the reported plunge occurred on March 30. The available official summary therefore supports a matching close on March 31, not a definitive date for the news report’s session. PSX’s closing-rate summary also lists the total-return index at 148,743.32. That is a different series from the price index and should not be substituted for it.

What the trading figures show

ProPakistani reported 308 million shares traded with a value of Rs. 26 billion. It said 567 companies transacted: 51 gained, 379 declined and 137 were unchanged. These are figures reported by the news outlet, rather than independently verified official statistics in the records cited here.

Rank #2

The outlet’s reported most-active stocks by volume were:

Company or symbol Reported shares traded
K-Electric (KEL) 56,526,172
Bank of Punjab (BOP) 35,921,883
D.S. Leasing (DSL) 31,661,287
WorldCall Telecom (WTL) 26,937,931
Fauji Fertilizer (FNEL) 19,802,685
UNITY 13,639,874
National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) 13,610,834

The figures in the table are the share volumes listed by ProPakistani.

What the KSE-100 measures

The Pakistan Stock Exchange describes the KSE-100 as its most recognized index. It includes the largest companies by market capitalization, represents all market sectors and accounts for 85% of the exchange’s market capitalization. PSX says it is calculated using a free-float market-capitalization methodology. The index is a broad market indicator, not a statement that every company or sector moved in line with its percentage change. PSX’s KSE-100 description explains the index’s coverage and methodology.
