Amazon said the departure followed an eight-month leadership transition to John Love; Parker and Cohen said they intended to take time with family before considering their next work.
Who was leaving, and when?
GeekWire reported on September 19, 2022, that Parker and Cohen had decided to leave PillPack and Amazon at the end of that month. Parker stated in a memo to employees, reproduced by GeekWire: “I’m writing to let you all know that Elliot and I are moving on from PillPack and Amazon at the end of the month.” This is a report of a planned 2022 departure, not a current announcement.
GeekWire’s September 19, 2022 report reproduced messages from Parker and Amazon Health Services senior vice president Neil Lindsay. The quotations here are attributed to those memos as reproduced in that report.
How Amazon described the handoff
Lindsay credited the founders’ work with shaping Amazon’s pharmacy business. He wrote: “Driven by their vision and customer obsession, the PillPack business and capabilities became the foundation of Amazon Pharmacy.”

The person taking over leadership was John Love. GeekWire reported that Love had become vice president of Amazon Pharmacy and PillPack at the beginning of 2022. Lindsay said Parker and Cohen had helped identify Love and supported the changeover:
“Both played a leadership role in identifying John Love as the leader to drive the next phase of Amazon Pharmacy growth, and they’ve spent the last 8 months ensuring that transition is as smooth as possible.”

That framing presents the founders’ exit as a planned handoff, with company leadership already moving to Love, rather than an abrupt change in responsibility.
How PillPack became part of Amazon Pharmacy
Parker traced the idea for PillPack to his experiences working in pharmacies and recalled shipping the first PillPack in late 2013. Amazon acquired the company in 2018. GeekWire described the acquisition as an early step in Amazon’s healthcare expansion; Lindsay’s memo characterized PillPack’s business and capabilities as the base for Amazon Pharmacy. Amazon launched Amazon Pharmacy in November 2020, according to GeekWire.

The reported acquisition value is not consistent across the available accounts. Parker’s memo, as reproduced by GeekWire, recalled celebrating Amazon’s acquisition “for $1B.” The Information described the 2018 purchase as around $750 million. These are attributed descriptions, not a reconciled exact purchase price.

Parker and Cohen said they expected to spend time with their families before returning to work. Parker wrote that after taking time to rest, they would “likely both return our focus to starting, investing in, and advising other healthcare and consumer-focused businesses.” This was their stated intention in 2022; it does not establish what they later did.
