In a report published on 14 August 2024, PerthNow relayed her account that Coles blamed the discrepancy on an Eastern Standard Time processing cutoff. The report does not independently verify the explanation or establish that the cutoff was an official or continuing Coles policy.
What happened with the Coles Online order?
PerthNow reported that an unnamed Perth mother of four placed a Coles Online order at 11.30pm on a Tuesday, with a displayed total of $450.37. When she later checked her bank statement, she said the amount taken was $504.70. The report was published Wednesday, 14 August 2024, so the Tuesday order was 13 August by calendar inference.
The difference between the two reported amounts is $54.33. PerthNow described it as about $55; the report did not itemise the difference or explain whether particular products or specials accounted for it. It should not be treated as an identified fee.
What explanation did the shopper say Coles gave?
The shopper told 9News, as relayed by PerthNow, that Coles attributed the difference to the order being processed in Eastern Standard Time, while the online order had displayed Perth time. That is her account of the explanation. The report does not include a receipt, order record, direct technical evidence from Coles, or a detailed company statement confirming how the discrepancy occurred.
