In November 2020, Reddit user nehalist created a Twitter bot that posted when PS5 availability changed at selected shops. The creator said it sent notifications rather than buying consoles, and described its retailer coverage as limited. The sources available do not establish whether the account or bot still works today.
What the PS5 stock bot did
Nehalist described the project in a Reddit post: “I created a bot which twitters about PS5 stock availability changes. It doesn’t buy anything and just wants to help you getting notified whenever stock availability changes on certain shops. It’s also open source.” Tech Times reported on the bot on November 19, 2020, identifying its Twitter account as iloveps_5 and describing a companion project called “I Love RTX.”
The bot’s purpose was to flag stock changes, including when a listing went out of stock. It was not an auto-checkout tool: a notification could help someone notice a change, but the creator did not claim that it could reserve or buy a console.
Which retailers did it track?
In the historical Reddit discussion, nehalist said the bot checked Amazon in the US, Amazon in Germany, and Sony Direct, which the creator believed was US-only. The creator also said tweets included a product link. Tech Times reproduced an example of an Amazon UK stock-change alert, so coverage described at different moments was not necessarily identical.

- Vertical Stand sold seperately
Those details describe the project around its 2020 launch, not a verified current retailer list. Reddit users asked about Best Buy, Target, Walmart, Canada, the Netherlands, and other locations; those requests do not show that the bot later added them. The discussion’s question about whether it worked worldwide has no basis for assuming comprehensive country or retailer coverage.
Could an alert help you buy a PS5?
A stock alert can shorten the time between a listing change and your awareness of it. It cannot guarantee that stock remains available when you open the retailer page or complete checkout. WIRED’s general reporting on console restock alerts notes that buyers may need to act quickly and that some social-media alert accounts post unrelated promotions. Treat any alert as a prompt to verify the listing at the retailer, not as confirmation of a purchase opportunity.

- Check the retailer and product page linked by an alert before entering payment details.
- Confirm the seller, price, delivery terms, and availability on the retailer’s own page.
- Be wary of unrelated promotions or links that do not lead to the expected retailer listing.
Is the original account still active?
The sources documenting the story do not establish the present-day status of iloveps_5, its coverage, or the “I Love RTX” project. Tech Times linked to the ilox stock-tracking community site, but that reference does not confirm that the service remains operational or useful now. Do not rely on the historical account or site as a current alert service without checking its status and verifying any stock directly with a retailer.
