Paul Coulson’s current personal net worth is not established by a reliable public figure. The latest specific estimate located is £1.239 billion for Coulson and his family in the 2025 Sunday Times Rich List. It predates Ardagh’s November 2025 recapitalisation, so it should not be treated as a current estimate of Coulson’s individual wealth.
What is Paul Coulson’s net worth?
The most recent named figure is £1.239 billion for Paul Coulson and family, attributed to the 2025 Sunday Times Rich List. It is a wealth estimate, not an audited personal balance sheet, and it was published before the November 2025 restructuring of Ardagh. The estimate therefore does not establish Coulson’s current individual net worth.

Several other figures sometimes associated with Coulson measure different things. A reported value of about $2.4 billion referred to his former stake at Ardagh’s 2021 peak valuation. An approximately $300 million payment recorded in Ardagh’s 2025 filing was for former indirect shareholders as a group, not Coulson alone. Neither figure can be substituted for a current personal net-worth estimate.
How did Paul Coulson make his money?
Coulson’s wealth is closely associated with Ardagh, the packaging group he led for decades. Ardagh’s 2023 succession announcement said he had chaired the group since 1998 and would step down as chairman in November 2023 while remaining a director and controlling shareholder of ARD Holdings at that time. The company described its growth from a single Dublin glass plant with about $50 million in annual revenue to a global packaging business with more than $9 billion in annualised revenue. That history explains the business behind his wealth, but company growth does not by itself establish an individual’s net worth.
#1 Best Overall
Before the 2025 recapitalisation, Ardagh Metal Packaging’s FY2024 annual report stated that Coulson controlled ARD Holdings through an 18.83% direct stake and a 52.44% stake in Yeoman Capital, which in turn owned 33.88% of ARD Holdings. These are historical ownership figures from before the restructuring, not a description of his holdings today.
What happened to his Ardagh stake after the debt restructuring?
Ardagh Holdings S.A.’s audited FY2025 report says that the recapitalisation was completed in November 2025. Ardagh Holdings became the direct shareholder of all issued shares in Ardagh Group S.A. and ARD Group Finance Holdings S.A.; ultimate ownership transferred to certain former debt holders through a debt-for-equity swap. The transaction reduced debt and included an approximately $300 million cash payment to former indirect shareholders.
The filing does not state how much of that aggregate payment Coulson personally received. The Irish Times reported in July 2025 that Coulson effectively held 36.6% of Ardagh before the restructuring and that former shareholders would share the payment. It also described his stake as worth about $2.4 billion at the company’s 2021 peak valuation. That is a historical stake valuation, not a current net-worth figure or a disclosed payment amount.
Rank #2
Why Ardagh’s revenue and business interests are not Coulson’s net worth
Ardagh Holdings reported $9.6 billion in revenue for the year ended December 31, 2025, with 58 production facilities in 16 countries and approximately 19,000 employees. After the recapitalisation, it indirectly held approximately 76% of Ardagh Metal Packaging and approximately 42% of Trivium Packaging. These are corporate scale and ownership figures; they are not personal assets belonging to Coulson. Revenue is not profit, and a company’s value or subsidiary interests cannot be counted as an individual’s wealth without knowing the person’s ownership, liabilities, and other assets.
How to compare the figures
- £1.239 billion: a 2025 Sunday Times Rich List estimate for Coulson and family, published before the November 2025 restructuring.
- About $2.4 billion: the Irish Times’ reported valuation of Coulson’s former roughly 36.6% stake using Ardagh’s 2021 peak valuation.
- Approximately $300 million: the aggregate payment to former indirect shareholders recorded in Ardagh’s 2025 filing; Coulson’s individual share is not disclosed there.
- $9.6 billion: Ardagh Holdings’ 2025 revenue, a company figure rather than a measure of Coulson’s personal wealth.
These numbers have different dates and scopes: a family wealth estimate, a historical stake valuation, a group payment, and company revenue. They cannot be added together or used interchangeably to calculate Coulson’s current net worth. A defensible current figure would require a dated estimate that states whether it covers Coulson alone or his family and explains its treatment of assets, liabilities, and the post-restructuring transaction.
