PayPal is currently unavailable for Steam purchases in currencies other than EUR, CAD, GBP, JPY, AUD and USD, according to Steam Support. The restriction is defined by currency, not by a published list or count of affected countries. Steam has not announced when PayPal may return for the other currencies.
Why PayPal may not appear at Steam checkout
Steam Support says PayPal notified Valve in early July 2025 that its acquiring bank for transactions in certain currencies was immediately ending processing of Steam-related transactions. Steam does not name the bank or explain its reason.

Steam’s published list of currencies where PayPal remains available is EUR, CAD, GBP, JPY, AUD and USD. Purchases in other currencies are affected under the support page’s explanation. Because Steam describes the limitation by currency rather than country, it does not establish that every customer in a particular country is affected.
Is PayPal coming back to Steam?
Steam says it hopes to offer PayPal again for the affected currencies, but that the timeline is uncertain. It also says it is evaluating additional payment methods for affected customers. These are statements of intent, not a confirmed return date or a promise that a particular new method will launch.

What to do if PayPal is unavailable
- Check your checkout options. Payment methods can depend on your account and store currency. Use the options Steam actually displays for your purchase.
- Choose another available method if you can. Steam advises customers to try a different payment method offered at checkout.
- If none works, consider a Steam Wallet code. Steam suggests adding funds this way. Before buying a code, check its region and redemption terms; the general support page does not establish that every code will work with every account.
Do not confuse this with a Steam Wallet currency mismatch
A separate issue can occur when traveling if the currency of funds in your Steam Wallet does not match the currency of a purchase. For that specific problem, Steam Support’s guidance is to retry the purchase using the payment instrument alone, without Steam Wallet funds; if that fails, contact Steam Support. This is distinct from PayPal being unavailable for purchases in certain currencies.
