The increase was not uniform across maturities: reported rises were smaller for 1-month, 6-month and 1-year KIBOR.
What happened to KIBOR after the SBP decision?
On April 27, 2026, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) announced a 100-basis-point increase in its policy rate, taking it to 11.50% effective April 28. A basis point is one hundredth of a percentage point, so 100 basis points equal one percentage point. Radio Pakistan reported that the Monetary Policy Committee said the increase was intended to control inflation and maintain economic stability. Radio Pakistan’s April 27 report
The following day, Mettis Global reported that the 1-week and 2-week Karachi Interbank Offered Rate (KIBOR) tenors had risen by nearly 99 basis points. That figure refers to those short tenors, not to KIBOR across the entire curve. Mettis Global’s April 28 report
How much did each reported tenor rise?
Mettis Global reported these increases after the policy decision. The figures are changes in basis points, not the resulting KIBOR rate levels.

| KIBOR tenor | Reported increase |
|---|---|
| 1-week | Nearly 99 basis points |
| 2-week | Nearly 99 basis points |
| 1-month | 94 basis points |
| 6-month | About 43 basis points |
| 1-year | About 34 basis points |
The report’s comparison shows the largest increases at the short end and smaller moves at longer maturities. Mettis Global described the longer-tenor movement as reflecting expectations of stabilization; that is the publisher’s interpretation, not a directly measured view of every market participant. The reported figures are attributed to Mettis Global because the official daily historical rate table for this exact before-and-after comparison is not available here.
Why KIBOR and the policy rate are different
The policy rate is an SBP monetary-policy rate; KIBOR is a tenor-specific interbank offered rate in Karachi’s money market. They are related measures, but they are not interchangeable. A policy-rate announcement and a subsequent KIBOR movement can occur in sequence without proving that every KIBOR tenor must move by the same amount, or that the policy decision alone explains the full market move.
That distinction matters when reading the 99-basis-point headline: it describes the reported change in 1-week and 2-week KIBOR, while the reported changes for longer tenors were smaller.

The April increase is a dated market event, not a statement of the rate at every later point. On September 14, 2026, the SBP Monetary Policy Committee held the policy rate at 11.5%; seven of ten members voted to hold, according to Radio Pakistan.

In the SBP’s KIBOR snapshot dated October 7, 2026, the listed rates were 11.72% bid and 11.97% offer for 3-month KIBOR, 12.13% bid and 12.38% offer for 6-month, and 12.18% bid and 12.68% offer for 12-month. These are later rate levels, not the April changes in basis points, and each figure needs to be read with its tenor and bid or offer side. SBP KIBOR data
