NVIDIA is much larger by reported revenue, while AMD has a more diversified mix across data-center, client and gaming, and embedded businesses. Neither faster growth nor a lower price-to-earnings ratio settles which stock is the better investment: the companies report on different fiscal calendars, their businesses have different economics, and forward valuation depends on estimates. Compare the reporting periods, segments, execution risks, and dated valuation data together.
Start with the reporting periods—and the scale difference
NVIDIA’s fiscal year ends in January; AMD reports on a calendar-year basis. Their latest annual figures therefore cover different periods and should not be treated as a same-period comparison.
| Company and period | Revenue | Year-over-year growth | What the figure says |
|---|---|---|---|
| NVIDIA fiscal 2026 | $215.9 billion | 65% | Annual results reported in NVIDIA’s fiscal 2026 Form 10-K. |
| AMD calendar 2025, year ended December 27, 2025 | $34.6 billion | 34% | Annual results reported in AMD’s 2025 Form 10-K. |
NVIDIA’s reported annual revenue was substantially higher, but scale alone does not show what investors pay for future earnings or how resilient those earnings may be. The annual growth percentages also cover different fiscal periods.
Compare what each company sells, not just total revenue
NVIDIA: a large data-center business and an integrated platform
In fiscal 2026, NVIDIA’s Data Center revenue grew 68%, and Gaming revenue grew 41%. The company describes its Data Center offering as an integrated platform spanning GPUs and CPUs, interconnects, networking, software, and services. CUDA and related libraries are part of its software ecosystem. Those are NVIDIA’s descriptions of its platform, not an independent assessment of market share or competitive advantage.

AMD: data center alongside client, gaming, and embedded markets
AMD reported 2025 Data Center revenue of $16.6 billion, up 32%; Client and Gaming revenue of $14.6 billion, up 51%; and Embedded revenue of $3.5 billion, down 3%. AMD reported a 50% gross margin for the year. Segment figures are rounded, so they may not add exactly to the reported $34.6 billion total. The company attributed Data Center demand to EPYC processors and Instinct MI350 products and said it had previewed a Helios rack-scale solution; these are company-reported product and demand statements.
Use the latest quarterly results to see what is changing
AMD quarter ended June 27, 2026
AMD reported $11.536 billion in total revenue for the quarter. Data Center revenue was $6.718 billion, Client and Gaming was $3.841 billion, and Embedded was $977 million.

| AMD segment | Quarter revenue | Year-over-year trend |
|---|---|---|
| Data Center | $6.718 billion | Up 107% |
| Client and Gaming | $3.841 billion | Up 6% |
| Embedded | $977 million | Not stated in the cited quarterly figures |
Within Client and Gaming, Gaming revenue fell 31%, primarily because of lower semi-custom revenue. Data Center operating income improved year over year, while Client and Gaming operating income declined. These segment trends show why total growth can conceal different sources of momentum; they do not, on their own, establish future results.
NVIDIA Q2 FY2027 call, August 26, 2026
NVIDIA’s earnings-call transcript reported $96 billion in total revenue and $89 billion in Data Center revenue. Management described its outlook as supply-constrained. These are company-reported figures and management commentary from a call transcript, not audited quarterly filing figures. The concentration of revenue in Data Center and the stated supply constraint make demand continuity and the ability to deliver supply relevant questions for investors.

Interpret valuation as a dated snapshot, not a signal
Stock Analysis displayed the following figures at the October 6, 2026 close; its company pages were updated October 7, 2026. Prices, market capitalizations, and multiples are third-party snapshots and can change. P/E ratios are not directly comparable without considering the earnings periods and estimates behind them.
| At October 6, 2026 close | NVIDIA | AMD |
|---|---|---|
| Share price | $239.24 | $649.42 |
| Market capitalization | $5.78 trillion | $1.06 trillion |
| Trailing P/E | 30.25 | 165.76 |
| Forward P/E | 19.78 | 58.48 |
On that snapshot, NVIDIA had the lower forward P/E. Forward P/E divides a share price by forecast earnings, so it depends on the provider’s estimates and the timing and assumptions used. It is not a guaranteed forecast, proof that a stock is underpriced, or a buy signal. A meaningful comparison asks what earnings are being forecast, how much growth those estimates assume, and how each valuation might respond if growth slows. Refresh quotes and estimates before relying on them.

Assess the risks that could change the comparison
Industry cycles and pricing
AMD’s 2026 Form 10-Q warns that the semiconductor industry is highly cyclical and subject to rapid technological change, swings in supply and demand, new product introductions, price erosion, and economic downturns. A period of fast revenue growth does not remove exposure to those forces.
Demand, supply, and execution
NVIDIA’s reported mix makes Data Center performance especially important to its results, while management’s supply-constrained outlook highlights the importance of delivering products as demand develops. AMD’s latest quarter showed very different growth rates across Data Center, Client and Gaming, and Embedded. For both companies, consider whether product launches, customer demand, and supply capacity can support the expectations embedded in the share price.

Other company and market risks
Compare customer demand and concentration, product execution, export controls, and competitive pricing. These factors can affect revenue, margins, or the valuation investors are willing to pay. The figures cited here do not provide a fully matched, same-period margin comparison for the two companies, so a direct margin ranking would not be supported.
Quick Recap
A practical framework for comparing NVDA and AMD
- Align the periods. Label NVIDIA’s fiscal periods and AMD’s calendar periods, and avoid comparing annual growth as if the companies reported over identical dates.
- Break out the businesses. Track Data Center, client computing, gaming, and embedded contributions where reported, along with segment operating income and margins. Distinguish growth in one segment from company-wide growth.
- Separate reported results from expectations. Treat filings as reported financial results; identify earnings-call commentary as management’s view, and keep forecasts separate from historical performance.
- Check the valuation inputs. Review market capitalization and trailing and forward multiples, then identify the earnings estimates and periods behind the forward ratio. Date-stamp market figures and refresh them when making a current comparison.
- Test the thesis against risk. Consider how slower demand, supply limits, product delays, pricing pressure, export controls, or a semiconductor downturn could affect earnings and the multiple investors assign to them.
