|---|---|---|
| Mario Kart World | CAD $109.99 | More than CAD $100. Best Buy Canada listing |
| The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition | CAD $114.99 | A named Switch 2 edition, not a price to apply to every edition. Best Buy Canada listing |
| Resident Evil Generation Pack | CAD $119.99 | A multi-game pack; do not treat its price as the standard price of one game. Best Buy Canada listing |
| Donkey Kong Bananza | CAD $99.99 | Listed just below the CAD $100 threshold. Best Buy Canada listing |
The examples show why the answer is “some,” not “all.” Nintendo Canada’s digital storefront also showed different prices: Xenoblade Chronicles 2 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition at CAD $99.99 and Yoshi and the Mysterious Book at CAD $84.99, with other titles priced below those points. Those storefront prices are distinct from Best Buy’s retail listings.
Why can prices differ?
Compare the same game, edition and format
A standard edition, an upgraded edition and a multi-game bundle are not interchangeable price comparisons. Check the exact edition and whether the listing is for a physical or digital copy, then compare the same product across Canadian sellers. Also check whether a displayed price is before sales tax; the cited Best Buy category prices do not calculate a province-specific checkout total.

Nintendo has a specific digital-pricing policy
Nintendo Support says that, beginning in May 2026, new Nintendo-published digital games exclusive to Switch 2 have an MSRP different from their physical versions. Nintendo says production and distribution costs for each format inform that difference. This statement applies to the described Nintendo-published digital-exclusive releases; it is not a general rule for every Switch 2 game or publisher. Nintendo Support: digital and physical pricing
Nintendo says software prices are set title by title
At Nintendo’s May 2025 financial-results briefing, president Shuntaro Furukawa said software pricing takes regional factors into account and also considers rising costs, including larger game files and longer development periods. He added that Nintendo would continue to consider an appropriate price for each title. This explains Nintendo’s approach; it does not establish that every game must cost CAD $100 or more. Does the Switch 2 console price increase mean games are getting more expensive?
No such conclusion follows from the console announcement. Nintendo announced that the Canadian MSRP for the Switch 2 system would rise from CAD $629.99 to CAD $679.99 effective September 1, 2026. That announcement concerns the hardware system, not a game-price increase. Nintendo announcement of the Canadian system MSRP revision
