Nintendo did pass the 10-million Switch 2 sales milestone in the six months ended September 30, 2025—but its reported net sales rose 110.1% year over year, not 90%. The company reported ¥1,099.565 billion in net sales and 10.36 million Switch 2 hardware units for that half-year. Its latest official cumulative figure in the reporting reviewed here is 23.68 million Switch 2 units worldwide as of June 30, 2026.

What Nintendo reported for the six months ended September 30, 2025

Nintendo’s half-year reporting period ran from April 1 to September 30, 2025, and was compared with April 1 to September 30, 2024. Switch 2 launched on June 5, 2025, so the half-year hardware count covers only the period after launch within that reporting window.

Measure Reported result
Consolidated net sales ¥1,099.565 billion, compared with ¥523.299 billion in the prior-year period; up 110.1% year over year.
Operating profit ¥145.181 billion.
Ordinary profit ¥236.040 billion.
Profit attributable to owners of the parent ¥198.936 billion.
Switch 2 hardware sales 10.36 million units.
Switch 2 software sales 20.62 million units.
Original Switch hardware sales 1.89 million units.
Original Switch software sales 61.56 million units.

The 110.1% figure is the year-over-year increase in net sales for that half-year, not profit growth or console sales growth. Net sales are a revenue measure; operating profit, ordinary profit and profit attributable to owners of the parent are different measures. Nintendo’s half-year results release reports them separately.

How Switch 2 sales changed after the 10-million milestone

Nintendo later reported 19.86 million Switch 2 hardware units sold during FY2026, the fiscal year ended March 31, 2026. Consolidated net sales for that full fiscal year were ¥2,313.0 billion. These are full-year figures and should not be added to the half-year numbers: the half-year period is part of FY2026.

In its official cumulative sales data, Nintendo reported 23.68 million Switch 2 hardware units worldwide as of June 30, 2026. That is a life-to-date total through the stated date, not units sold in the June quarter or a count of current inventory. The company’s hardware and software sales data provides the cumulative figures.

What the software figures do—and do not—mean

For the six months ended September 30, 2025, Nintendo reported 20.62 million Switch 2 software units. It reported 9.57 million units for Mario Kart World and 3.49 million for Donkey Kong Bananza in that period. The game counts include units bundled with hardware, so they should not be read as standalone purchases or as revenue.

What Nintendo said about the sales outlook

Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa said Switch 2’s first-year sales through March 2026 exceeded the company’s initial forecast of 15 million units and its revised forecast of 19 million. Nintendo forecast 16.5 million hardware units for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2027. Furukawa said the forecast considered the second-year performance of past dedicated systems; it is a company forecast, not a guaranteed outcome.

In a November 2025 Q&A, Furukawa said the existing Switch installed base exceeded 150 million and that Nintendo expected existing Switch owners to be the primary purchasing group for the time being, while also aiming to explain Switch 2’s appeal to new consumers. He described backward compatibility with Switch software as one factor easing the transition. This is management commentary from November 2025, not a current survey of buyers.

Furukawa’s official English Q&A states: “Nintendo Switch 2 hardware unit sales have exceeded 10 million units as of the end of September 2025, but there is still a significant gap compared to the Nintendo Switch installed base of over 150 million units.” The November 2025 Q&A is labeled an English translation of the Japanese original.

How to compare the figures accurately

  • Check the date range. A half-year total, fiscal-year total and cumulative total describe different windows.
  • Separate money from units. Net sales and profit are yen-denominated financial results; console and game sales are unit counts.
  • Distinguish hardware from software. A software-unit figure is not console revenue, and a bundled game unit is not necessarily a separate purchase.
  • Read forecasts as forecasts. Nintendo’s FY2027 figure is management’s expectation, not a reported result.
  • Keep the geography and source in view. The cited cumulative hardware count is Nintendo’s worldwide figure; it is not an independent market-level sell-through estimate.
