Nintendo Switch 2 passed 6 million consumer sales in its first seven weeks after launching on June 5, 2025, when Nintendo said demand exceeded supply in many countries. That is a launch-period milestone, not the current cumulative total: Nintendo’s official sales page reported 23.68 million Switch 2 hardware units worldwide as of June 30, 2026.
How many Switch 2 consoles has Nintendo sold?
Nintendo’s official cumulative sales page lists 23.68 million Switch 2 hardware units worldwide as of June 30, 2026. The same page lists 58.17 million software units. These are cumulative totals, not a measure of current stock in stores. Nintendo’s hardware and software sales figures are the company’s official totals.

The “over 6 million” figure refers to a much earlier point: Nintendo said consumer sell-through exceeded 6 million during the first seven weeks after launch. It should not be presented as the system’s latest sales total.
What the sales milestones show
Nintendo published milestones using different measures. Consumer sell-through tracks purchases by consumers; hardware sales in financial results are reported on a sell-in basis. The figures below retain Nintendo’s stated basis so they are not mistaken for directly interchangeable counts.

Could Nintendo keep up with demand?
In August 2025, Nintendo said demand was exceeding supply “in many countries” and that it regretted the inconvenience to consumers. The company said it would strengthen production and supply systems. In its first-quarter 2026 results, Nintendo also said strong demand had surpassed expectations and that it was strengthening production to increase supply. These statements describe Nintendo’s response and the situation it reported at that time; they do not establish a continuing shortage today.
The sales milestones show a rapid rise in cumulative sales, but they do not reveal how many customers were unable to buy a console, how long they waited, or whether supply matched demand in a particular market. Nintendo has not provided a current shortage rate, unmet-orders count, or country-by-country availability figure in the cited materials.

Is the Switch 2 still hard to find?
The cited official figures do not establish whether Switch 2 is difficult to find in any specific country in October 2026. Nintendo’s supply warning was made in 2025, and cumulative worldwide sales cannot answer a local stock question. Availability, retailer inventory, and wait times vary by region and seller; check current listings where you live rather than treating the historical shortage statement as a present-day status report.
