The U.S. list price of the standard Nintendo Switch rose by $40, from $299.99 to $339.99, effective August 3, 2025. Asked why the Nintendo Switch price went up, Nintendo’s stated explanation was that the change was “based on market conditions.” The increase is a 2025 change, not a newly announced 2026 increase.
What changed, and when?
Nintendo announced in August 2025 that U.S. pricing for the original Nintendo Switch family would change effective August 3, 2025. The company’s announcement said: “Pricing for the original Nintendo Switch™ family of systems and products will change in the United States based on market conditions, effective August 3, 2025.” Nintendo’s August 2025 U.S. pricing update is the source for the stated reason and effective date.
Contemporaneous reporting gave these before-and-after U.S. prices for the three original-family console models:
| Model | Before | After | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard Nintendo Switch | $299.99 | $339.99 | +$40 |
| Nintendo Switch OLED Model | $349.99 | $399.99 | +$50 |
| Nintendo Switch Lite | $199.99 | $229.99 | +$30 |
These are the announced U.S. price changes reported by Tom’s Hardware on August 1, 2025. Nintendo’s current U.S. product page lists the standard Nintendo Switch at $339.99; check the Nintendo Switch console listing for the latest official listing.

Why did Nintendo raise the price?
Nintendo cited “market conditions.” Its announcement did not specify a more precise cause, so it does not establish that tariffs—or any other single factor—caused the increase. The company also said, “However, please note that price adjustments may be necessary in the future.” That is a general possibility, not a prediction of another specific increase.
What the listed price means for buyers
Nintendo’s product-page price is not a promise that every retailer currently charges $339.99 or has the console in stock. Retail prices, promotions, bundles, and availability can differ. Before budgeting or buying, compare the current checkout price and terms at the retailer you plan to use with Nintendo’s listing.
