A San Francisco jury found consultant Nima Momeni guilty of second-degree murder in the killing of Cash App founder Bob Lee. The verdict was returned on December 17, 2024, after seven days of deliberations. Momeni had not been sentenced as of NBC Bay Area’s September 28, 2026 report; the outcome of a later hearing was not established in the sources available for this account.
What the jury decided
The jury found Momeni guilty of second-degree murder. The San Francisco District Attorney’s Office announced the conviction, which was also reported by the Associated Press and the San Francisco Chronicle. AP reported that jurors deliberated for seven days and rejected Momeni’s self-defense claim. The verdict is the jury’s finding; testimony and competing accounts presented at trial should not be treated as additional findings.
Second-degree murder carries a reported sentencing range of 16 years to life, according to AP. That is the range associated with the conviction, not a sentence imposed on Momeni.
Who was Bob Lee, and when did he die?
Lee, the founder of Cash App, was fatally stabbed in San Francisco on April 4, 2023. He was 43 and later died at a hospital, AP reported. The San Francisco District Attorney’s Office announced the verdict in a release: its statement on the conviction included District Attorney Brooke Jenkins’s words: “Bob Lee was beloved by his friends, family, and community, and we hope that this verdict gives them a measure of peace and closure.”

Has Momeni been sentenced or granted a new trial?
As of NBC Bay Area’s September 28, 2026 report, Momeni had not been sentenced. NBC Bay Area reported that an appeal under the Racial Justice Act had recently been denied and that his lawyers were filing a new-trial motion based on other claims. The report described a further hearing as upcoming, but its outcome is not established here; this account does not say whether the motion was granted or denied or whether sentencing has since occurred.
For the dated procedural update, see NBC Bay Area’s September 28, 2026 report. The conviction and the later questions of post-trial motions and sentencing are separate stages of the case.
