Copper announced a $29 million Series A on April 26, 2022, led by Fiat Ventures. At the time, it said it planned to expand its teen banking service into a broader financial platform, including access to stocks, mutual funds and cryptocurrency. That plan should not be mistaken for a current product description: Copper ended its bank deposit accounts and debit cards in May 2024, and its website now presents an app called Earn.
What Copper announced in 2022
Copper said Fiat Ventures led the $29 million Series A, with participation from Panoramic Ventures, Insight Partners, Invesco Private Capital and existing investors. The company said the round brought its total investment to $42.3 million. Copper’s announcement described the financing as support for expanding beyond teen banking.
The announced direction included allowing customers to direct account funds into individual stocks, mutual funds and cryptocurrency later that year. This was Copper’s stated plan in April 2022, not confirmation that every feature launched or remains available.
How many users did Copper have?
In 2022, Copper reported more than 800,000 users, 24,000 reviews and a 4.9 average rating in Apple’s App Store. These were company-reported figures at the time, not current user counts. GeekWire’s contemporaneous coverage also reported on the company’s growth and funding.

Copper’s current website advertises more than 4 million members and more than $20 million earned. Those are company-published marketing claims, not independently verified figures, and they use a different date and product context from the 2022 user count. Copper’s current website does not make the figures directly comparable.
What happened to Copper’s teen bank accounts and debit cards?
Copper discontinued its bank deposit accounts and debit cards effective May 13, 2024, after its banking middleware provider, Synapse, began sunsetting service. TechCrunch reported that Copper notified customers on May 12. Banking Dive also reported the service shutdown and quoted CEO Eddie Behringer’s customer letter. The end of those banking and debit services does not mean Copper itself ceased operating.

What does Copper offer now?
As of October 8, 2026, Copper’s consumer website describes Earn, an app built around rewards for playing games, scanning receipts, completing offers, taking surveys and referring friends. Copper says users can redeem rewards through PayPal, Venmo or gift cards. Its eligibility help page says users must be at least 13 and U.S. residents; some offers may require users to be 21 or older. These are Copper’s current descriptions and may change.
The company’s 2022 investing announcement and its current Earn description refer to different points in Copper’s history. The current pages cited here do not establish that Copper’s previously announced investment features are available today.

What the $29 million round does—and does not—tell you
The financing was a company announcement about capital raised and plans for product expansion. It is not evidence that all planned investing features launched, nor that Copper still operates as a teen bank. In 2022, Behringer described the original service as combining parental visibility with teen independence: “We give parents alerts and smart controls so they always know how their children are spending and saving. At the same time, we give teens the freedom to experiment with money — and even make mistakes — before entering the adult world.” The quote appeared in Copper’s April 2022 announcement.
