Korean media reported in April 2025 that Nexon had entered “main negotiations” with Blizzard over a StarCraft intellectual-property project and rights connected to Overwatch Mobile in Korea and Japan. Later coverage in September 2026 said a StarCraft deal was close to finalization, but the reporting reviewed here still did not establish a signed agreement or an official announcement.
What was reported about Nexon and Blizzard?
On April 28, 2025, Korean outlet MTN reported that Nexon had been selected as Blizzard’s preferred bidder and entered “main negotiations” for two separate opportunities. Those phrases describe reported stages of discussions, not a publicly confirmed contract. GamesRadar+ said the claims had not been publicly confirmed. PocketGamer.biz and Insider Gaming also relayed details of the bidding, including reported interest from other Korean publishers.

What was the reported StarCraft opportunity?
The reported opportunity involved developing a project using the StarCraft intellectual property. The proposal Nexon submitted was not disclosed, and the reporting said the bid had no restriction on genre or content type. It did not establish that Nexon was developing StarCraft 3 or identify a title, gameplay format, release window, or other project specifics. GamesRadar+’s April 2025 report attributed the account to MTN.
What was reported about Overwatch Mobile?
The 2025 reporting described Overwatch Mobile as a mobile MOBA and said the opportunity concerned distribution or domestic service rights in Korea and Japan. Some bidders reportedly used “Overwatch 3” informally, but that was not an official name. Neither the game’s format nor Nexon’s regional rights were publicly confirmed in the reporting reviewed. The Korea-and-Japan territory claim applies to Overwatch Mobile, not the separate StarCraft opportunity.

Did Nexon and Blizzard finalize the StarCraft deal?
Not in any official announcement established by the coverage reviewed here. A September 2, 2026 GamesRadar+ follow-up relayed a Chosun Ilbo report saying the StarCraft deal was close to finalization, while also describing it as unofficial and offering no confirmed title or project details. “Near finalization” in that report is not the same as a signed or announced agreement. | Topic | What the reporting says | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| StarCraft | Nexon was reportedly Blizzard’s preferred bidder in April 2025; September 2026 coverage relayed a report that a deal was close to finalization. | A signed agreement, official announcement, confirmed game title, sequel status, genre, or release date. |
| Overwatch Mobile | Reportedly a mobile MOBA opportunity involving distribution or domestic service rights in Korea and Japan. | That the game exists as described, that Nexon secured the rights, an official name, or a release date. |
The distinction matters: the StarCraft report concerns development using an established franchise, while the Overwatch Mobile report concerns a claimed mobile project and regional distribution or service rights. The available reports do not support treating either as an announced Nexon release.
