Dennis Creech, a former Hess and Shell Oil executive who had joined the board the previous October, was appointed interim CEO. The settlement’s financial terms were not publicly disclosed in GeekWire’s August 18, 2020 report.
What happened at Modumetal?
GeekWire reported that Lomasney said the board terminated her in February 2020. “This was not my choice. This was the board’s decision,” she said. At a February 9 meeting, board chairman Steve Singh told her he believed it was time to bring on a new CEO, according to GeekWire’s account of the lawsuit complaint.
The board appointed Dennis Creech interim CEO during an executive session on February 13, 2020. Creech told GeekWire that the board asked him to take the role to “scale the business.” Lomasney resigned her board seat in August 2020.
Why did Lomasney sue?
Lomasney filed suit on June 5, 2020, in King County Superior Court against Modumetal, Singh, and board director Stuart Nagae. The complaint, as described by GeekWire, alleged that the board sought to deny portions of severance specified in her employment agreement, including payment for unused vacation days.

How did the board and Lomasney describe the transition?
Speaking for the board, Singh thanked Lomasney “for her product leadership and contributions.” He described Creech as transparent and collaborative and said the executive team’s efforts were beginning to show in company results. Lomasney said it was a privilege to help bring Modumetal’s technology to market and expressed hope that the company would broaden its commercial applications.
The comments reflect different perspectives on the leadership change: Lomasney said she would not have chosen to leave, while Creech said the board wanted him to help scale the business. They do not resolve the disputed employment-contract claims.

What did Modumetal make?
Modumetal was a Seattle-based materials startup founded by Lomasney and spun out of Isotron Corp., according to GeekWire. The company used electricity rather than the traditional heat-based energy source in metals production to arrange raw materials in layered structures, producing particular metal characteristics. GeekWire compared the structure to “metallic plywood.”
Its chief product, NanoGalv, was described as a corrosion-resistant nanolaminated alloy used in industrial applications including oil and gas pipelines and highway guardrails. This is infrastructure and energy-sector context, not a consumer retail product recommendation.
