The amount and purpose come from the company’s announcement, not a disclosed valuation or allocation to any one drug.
What is Newleos Therapeutics?
Newleos describes itself as a clinical-stage neuroscience company co-founded by Longwood Fund and CNS drug-development leaders. It said its pipeline was in-licensed from Roche and consists of oral small molecules being developed for generalized anxiety, social anxiety, substance use disorders and cognitive impairment. These are investigational programs, not approved treatments or products available to patients.
The company’s February 2025 debut announcement described the pipeline broadly. Its current pipeline page identifies programs involving GABAA-γ1, V1a, TAAR1 and GABAA-α5 targets; candidates, stages and descriptions may change over time. Newleos’ pipeline page is the company’s source for its current program descriptions.
Who invested, and what does the $93.5 million financing mean?
Newleos announced the round as oversubscribed. Goldman Sachs Alternatives led it, with Novo Holdings A/S, Longwood Fund, DCVC Bio and Arkin Bio Capital participating. The company said proceeds would advance the pipeline and support proof-of-concept clinical trials across its programs. It did not disclose a company valuation, investor ownership shares, a runway estimate or how much would go to any individual candidate.

Founding CEO David Donabedian, Ph.D., said the capital would be used “to conduct proof-of-concept clinical trials across our programs.” That describes the financing’s intended use; it is not a claim that the medicines have demonstrated clinical benefit.
What medicines is Newleos developing?
NTX-1955 (RO7308480): anxiety disorders
Newleos identifies NTX-1955 as its lead program and describes it as a selective positive allosteric modulator of GABAA-γ1 intended for anxiety disorders. The company says it completed multiple Phase 1 studies, including single-ascending-dose, multiple-ascending-dose, drug-drug interaction and receptor-occupancy studies. Newleos reports that those studies showed safety, tolerability, brain penetration and target selectivity; the materials cited here do not provide independent trial results or evidence that the drug works for patients.

Other targets and programs
The company’s pipeline page lists V1a, TAAR1 and GABAA-α5 mechanisms alongside GABAA-γ1. Newleos’ launch release framed its broader portfolio around anxiety, substance use disorders and cognitive impairment. The available descriptions support comparisons of intended indication, target and reported development status—not comparisons of clinical outcomes between candidates or against standard treatments.
What has happened since the financing?
The $93.5 million announcement was a historical financing milestone, not a complete picture of later company activity. In October 2025, Newleos announced Timothy Noyes as President and CEO and said two clinical studies had recently begun; it also reported FDA IND clearance for NTX-1472. On January 6, 2026, the company reported first-participant dosing in a U.K. Phase 1b study of NTX-1955 in generalized anxiety disorder. Those are company-reported development milestones, not efficacy results or marketing approval.

In a July 28, 2026 update, Newleos announced Rohan Palekar as Board Chairman. The company said Christoph Westphal stepped down as Executive Chairman and would remain on the board. Leadership and trial status can change, so the dated company announcements should be read as snapshots rather than guarantees of current status.
How to read the mental-health statistics in the launch announcement
The February 2025 release attributed the statement that mental illnesses affect “over 25 percent” of U.S. adults, or “over 60 million individuals,” to David Donabedian, identified there as Newleos’ Founding CEO and a Longwood Fund Executive Partner. The reviewed materials do not independently verify that estimate. It should therefore be treated as a statement attributed to Donabedian, not as independently established epidemiology.

Newleos’ pipeline page also summarizes existing generalized anxiety treatments and describes a need among patients who remain inadequately managed. That is the company’s rationale for its program, not an independent treatment guideline or proof that its investigational drug will improve outcomes.

For readers evaluating the story as a business-development milestone, the meaningful next evidence is clinical: study design, reported results and subsequent regulatory steps. First dosing, trial starts and IND clearance indicate progress through development, but they are not substitutes for published results or regulatory approval.
