What is Action for Women’s Health?
Action for Women’s Health was a global open call funded by Pivotal, the organization founded by philanthropist Melinda French Gates, and managed by Lever for Change. Launched in October 2024, it offered $250 million in unrestricted operating grants to organizations working to improve women’s mental or physical health. The open call sought organizations that serve women, had a record of improving their mental or physical health, centered equity, and were positioned to scale their work. Which organizations received the grants?
Pivotal and Lever for Change announced more than 80 awardee organizations on November 12, 2025. They did not state an exact total in the announcement, so the recipient count is best described as “80+.” More than 4,000 organizations from 119 countries applied, and more than 65 percent of awardees were community-based organizations working in their home countries. The awardees’ work spans different needs and settings. Examples reported by the Associated Press include training midwives, providing sexual and reproductive health education, and expanding telemedicine and mobile clinics. The available announcement passages do not provide a complete dollar-by-dollar list of awards. They establish a range, not an equal division: the organizations received grants of $1 million to $5 million each, and the grants were made through a donor-advised fund supported by Pivotal at National Philanthropic Trust. How much did each organization receive?
Each award ranged from $1 million to $5 million, according to Pivotal and Lever for Change’s November 2025 announcement. The published information does not establish that every recipient received the same amount or identify every organization’s individual grant. Pivotal’s award announcement

In June 2026, Pivotal announced a separate $215 million commitment to women’s health. Pivotal said that French Gates’ reported giving to women’s health totaled more than $600 million over two years. Named components of the newer commitment included $10 million to The Menopause Society, $40 million to Co-Impact, and $50 million through Pivotal Philanthropies to an initiative with Wellcome Leap.
