Her documented career offers a grounded comparison: she used press coverage to publicize her catering business, expanded into retail and publishing, and later adapted to digital media, while repeatedly emphasizing the work involved.
What the available reporting does—and does not—confirm
The phrase “so much easier” appears in the headline supplied for this story, but the available reporting does not include the interview or transcript behind that wording. It therefore cannot establish that Stewart used the phrase, what she meant by it, or which aspects of launching a brand she compared. Her remarks at Salesforce Connections, reported by Diginomica on June 4, 2026, provide relevant career context, but they are a separate source—not confirmation of the exclusive’s contents. Read the Diginomica report.

That distinction matters: a plausible explanation based on current media and commerce is not the same as Stewart’s verified explanation. Her reported recollections show how her business developed across publicity, retail, publishing, and digital channels; they do not quantify how the cost, speed, or odds of launching a brand have changed.

Press coverage helped introduce her catering business
At the Salesforce event, Stewart recalled that local newspaper coverage followed the launch of her catering business, with coverage later reaching The New York Times and People. She said she had no advertising budget at first and relied on press coverage. This is her recollection as reported by Diginomica, not an independently audited account of the business’s early marketing.

A retail partnership took the brand into home products
Stewart said she became a home-style expert and advisor to Kmart in the 1980s, working on products including sheets and towels. In the event report, she recalled that the business exceeded $1 billion within two years and later reached almost $2 billion annually. Those figures are attributed to Stewart’s recollection; the report does not establish them as audited company results.
Publishing required adapting to new formats
Stewart recalled that her magazine was designed on a Mac, saying, “When we started my magazine, we were the first, other than Wired, to design our magazine on a Mac.” She also described moving toward digital publishing as print advertising declined. Her estimate was that digital readership reached five percent in the first year—below her expectation of one-third. That five-percent figure is her personal estimate as reported at the event, not an independent audience measurement.

She also described choosing ideas around consumer demand: “Need and want’ is a huge constant in my life.” The remark helps explain her stated approach to product and content decisions; it does not by itself show that a particular launch succeeded because of demand research.
What current channels may change—and what the evidence cannot prove
Stewart’s history illustrates several routes a brand can use: press exposure, a retail relationship, publishing, and digital distribution. A modern launch may have digital platforms available alongside those routes, but the sources here do not establish that those platforms make customer acquisition cheaper, guarantee an audience, or remove the need for retail and distribution partners. Nor do they offer a measured comparison of launch costs or outcomes across eras.

- This best-selling cookbook originally inspired Martha Stewart's beloved PBS series of the same name and includes some of the recipes the show featured in its first seasons.
Her recent product activity does show that the brand continues to span physical goods and publishing. In an April 9, 2026 post about a Kitchen Electrics launch, Stewart’s official blog said the event was held with Amazon and The Cookware Company; it also referred to MARTHA: THE COOKBOOK as her 100th book. The post establishes those companies as partners for that launch, not any affiliate arrangement. See the launch post.
An April 10, 2026 post described a 16-appliance Kitchen Electrics Collection in five neutral colors and said it would be exclusive to Amazon stores for the coming months. Named products included a countertop blender, French-door air-fryer toaster oven, waffle maker, slow cooker, rice cooker, and stand mixer. For the countertop blender, the post listed six stainless-steel blades, a selector dial, a large pitcher, and dishwasher-safe parts; it described the rotating waffle maker as having a 180-degree flip iron and an overflow tray. Availability, exclusivity, colors, and product details are time-sensitive and may have changed since those April posts. Read the collection announcement.

Why a launch still depends on sustained work
Digital reach and product distribution do not replace the work of developing products, finding an audience, and maintaining a business. Stewart told the Salesforce audience, “It’s 12 hours, 20 hours a day, of work, it’s not a rocket ship. It’s a big slog, and, and yet, I like slogging.” That is her description of the effort involved, not a universal formula for how many hours a founder must work.

Without the original exclusive, the specific reasons she gave for why launching her brand would be “so much easier” today remain unverified.
