In Delhi, the retail price of a 14.2 kg domestic cylinder fell from Rs. 903 to Rs. 803 effective 9 March 2024. Those are historical Delhi prices, not a current price or a nationwide price quote.
What changed, and when did the cut take effect?
The Prime Minister’s Office reported the announcement on International Women’s Day, 8 March 2024. The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas later specified that the Delhi price change took effect the next day, 9 March 2024.

The ministry’s December 2024 answer said domestic LPG prices were not increasing daily and described the 9 March 2024 change as the last domestic price revision at that time. That is a statement about the position in December 2024; it does not establish prices or revisions after that date.
Who received the Rs. 100 reduction?
The announcement described a reduction in LPG cylinder prices. The documented price example in the ministry’s record is Delhi’s 14.2 kg domestic cylinder. The cited records do not give a set of prices for other cities, so Rs. 803 should not be read as a uniform price across India. They also do not independently quantify the savings households ultimately realized.

How was the PM Ujjwala Yojana subsidy different?
A separate targeted subsidy applied to eligible Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) beneficiaries. For FY 2024-25, the Union Cabinet continued a subsidy of Rs. 300 per 14.2 kg cylinder, proportionately prorated for 5 kg cylinders, for up to 12 refills during the year. It was credited directly to eligible beneficiaries’ bank accounts, according to the Cabinet announcement published by the Press Information Bureau.
This PMUY benefit was distinct from the Rs. 100 price reduction: it had its own eligibility conditions and annual refill limit. The cited Cabinet terms cover FY 2024-25 and do not establish that the same subsidy remains in force in 2026.

What did the government say the cut was intended to do?
Modi said the reduction was intended to ease household financial pressure, particularly for women. The PMO reproduced his statement: “By making cooking gas more affordable, we also aim to support the well-being of families and ensure a healthier environment.” That expresses the government’s rationale; the cited records do not measure the cut’s realized household savings or health and environmental effects.
