It did not acquire every Telltale-associated franchise or simply take over the original company intact. The purchase price was not disclosed.
Who bought Telltale Games?
LCG Entertainment, a holding company led by game-industry veterans Jamie Ottilie and Brian Waddle, announced the acquisition on August 28, 2019. LCG said it would do business as Telltale Games. Its announcement described a purchase of the defunct studio’s key assets, trademarks, technology, and selected intellectual property—not an uninterrupted continuation of the former company or ownership of every game associated with it. Telltale’s announcement also named investors and advisers Chris Kingsley, Lyle Hall, Tobias Sjögren, and Athlon Games as supporters of the effort.
LCG did not disclose the purchase price. GamesBeat reported that the deal’s financial terms were not made public, so there is no verified price to cite.
What did LCG acquire?
The announced deal covered selected Telltale assets and intellectual property. That scope matters because game rights can be divided among a studio, a publisher, and the owner of an underlying franchise. The Telltale name and some of its original games were part of the revival, but the brand alone did not give LCG control of every licensed property.

GamesBeat identified titles including Puzzle Agent, The Wolf Among Us, and Batman among the original Telltale games for which LCG had rights. It also reported that rights to some properties, including The Walking Dead, reverted to their original owners after the studio went under. The report therefore supports a title-by-title understanding of the deal, not the idea that LCG bought every Telltale-associated license.
What was planned, and what role did Athlon have?
At the time of the announcement, LCG said it planned to re-release selected games from Telltale’s back catalog and develop new games in some of the studio’s best-selling brands. Those were stated plans, not a guarantee that every catalog title would return or that every announced project would be released.

Athlon Games was a publishing partner, not the owner of the revived Telltale. Leyou Technologies, Athlon’s parent company, said in its 2020 interim report that Athlon had exclusive publishing rights to certain games, including Batman and The Wolf Among Us. That is a bounded statement about publishing rights for specified games; it does not establish ownership of Telltale or all of LCG’s acquired properties. Leyou’s report describes Athlon’s role.

LCG acquired Telltale’s brand along with selected assets and IP, and said it would operate under the Telltale Games name. The company’s current About page says that, as of 2019, its brand, assets, and various IP are owned by LCG Entertainment, which operates and markets games under the Telltale name. It identifies Batman: The Telltale Series and The Wolf Among Us as legacy franchises.

The revival was thus a new company operating with the Telltale identity and some of its properties, rather than the old studio simply reopening unchanged. At the announcement, CEO Jamie Ottilie said the new team believed in the storytelling legacy and wanted to build on it. GamesBeat quoted him saying, “All of us were big fans of the games Telltale created, as we strongly believe in games as a storytelling medium and nobody did it better.” GamesBeat’s report includes his full statement.
