John Kispert, then KLA-Tencor’s vice president of finance, was named to succeed retiring executive vice president and CFO Bob Beohlke. The company announced the planned transition on June 8, 2000, saying Kispert would report to president and CEO Ken Schroeder.

Who replaced KLA-Tencor’s retiring CFO?

KLA-Tencor selected John Kispert, an internal executive who had served as vice president of finance, to take over the CFO role from Bob Beohlke. Beohlke was retiring from his positions as executive vice president and CFO. The June 8, 2000 announcement did not specify an effective date for Kispert’s transition.

Why did the company describe it as succession planning?

KLA-Tencor said the appointment was part of a strategic succession plan it had begun several years earlier. CEO Ken Schroeder described the effort as developing the next tier of management so senior executives could help cultivate future company leaders. Kispert’s appointment was therefore presented as an internal leadership transition, rather than a last-minute replacement.

What was Kispert’s background at KLA-Tencor?

Kispert joined the company in 1995 after holding management positions at IBM. He also helped create a unified business operation following the 1997 merger of KLA Instruments and Tencor Instruments. The announcement named him as the finance vice president moving into the CFO role, but did not provide quantified performance measures or financial figures associated with the appointment.

Who succeeded Kispert and later KLA-Tencor CFOs?

  • Jeffrey Hall, 2006: KLA-Tencor’s January 9, 2006 release said Hall’s CFO appointment was effective January 5. He succeeded Kispert after Kispert moved to president and chief operating officer.
  • Bren Higgins, 2013: In a July 9, 2013 release, the company announced Higgins as executive vice president and CFO. He was to assume CFO duties after the fiscal 2013 Form 10-K filing; Mark Dentinger was to remain as a senior adviser through the end of 2013 to support the transition.

These later appointments provide subsequent milestones in the company’s CFO succession history; they do not change the identity of Beohlke’s successor in 2000.
