No: Samsung did not announce that it is leaving the consumer SSD market. In December 2025, a Samsung spokesperson told Wccftech, “The rumor regarding the phasing out of Samsung SATA or other SSDs is false.” PC Gamer reported the denial on December 16, 2025. The rumor was not a company announcement. Wccftech · PC Gamer
What the rumor said—and what Samsung denied
The claim, amplified from a Moore’s Law Is Dead video, was that Samsung might stop making SATA SSDs and potentially redirect NAND capacity toward AI-related demand. Samsung’s reported response addressed a broader claim than SATA alone: it said the rumor about phasing out “Samsung SATA or other SSDs” was false. That is a denial of the alleged phaseout, not a promise about future prices, stock levels, or the availability of every model in every market.

Samsung’s filings show active consumer SSD products
Samsung Electronics’ 2026 first-quarter interim report lists several consumer SSD products, including internal NVMe drives and a portable drive. That product evidence supports the conclusion that Samsung continues to offer consumer SSDs; it does not establish that every older SATA model remains in production or available at retail.

Does AI demand mean Samsung SSDs will cost more?
Not necessarily in a predictable or uniform way. NAND and AI-infrastructure demand can affect supply and prices, but that is a separate issue from whether Samsung announced a consumer SSD exit. Samsung’s 1Q 2026 conference materials discuss continued SSD development and strong expected server SSD demand in the second half of 2026; server demand is not the same as a guarantee of higher or lower prices for consumer drives. For a household budget, treat future pricing and availability as uncertain: compare current listings for the precise capacity and interface you need, and avoid buying early solely because of the exit rumor. Prices and stock change, and Samsung’s denial does not guarantee plentiful supply or low prices.

How to choose a Samsung SSD for your device
- Check the interface first. SATA and NVMe drives are different interfaces; a PCIe 4.0 or PCIe 5.0 model requires a compatible M.2 slot and system support. A device that accepts a SATA drive may not accept an M.2 NVMe drive, and the reverse is also true.
- Match performance to the workload. A faster sequential-read specification is not the only consideration. For ordinary storage or an older computer, compatibility and capacity may matter more than a newer PCIe generation.
- Account for heat and workload. Sustained heavy transfers and system cooling can affect real-world performance. Confirm that the computer has suitable space and thermal management for the selected drive.
- Choose capacity around actual use. Games, video projects, and large working files can make higher capacity useful, but confirm the system supports the specific drive capacity.
- Decide whether internal or portable storage fits. An internal SSD upgrades a compatible computer or console; a portable SSD such as the T7 Resurrected is designed for external use.
- Verify the exact model and local listing. Availability, capacity options, compatibility, price, and stock may vary by region and retailer. Samsung’s installation guidance also documents accessories such as SATA cables, brackets, and spacers, along with migration software. Samsung SSD installation support
Should you buy a Samsung SSD before 2026?
The rumor alone is not a reason to rush. Buy when you have a clear storage need, have confirmed your device’s compatibility, and find a listing that fits your budget. Compare the exact drive’s interface, capacity, and current price rather than assuming every Samsung SATA model is disappearing. Samsung’s statement denied a broad phaseout rumor, while its 2026 interim report lists active consumer SSD products.
