Not on the available evidence. As of October 8, 2026, PlayStation’s US listings showed the Complete Edition for $29.99 during a sale scheduled to end at 06:59 UTC that day, but no current Collector’s Edition price or stock was verified. The $180 price in the headline therefore cannot be confirmed, nor can a claim that the Collector’s Edition costs less than buying the game separately.
What the price comparison can—and cannot—show
A fair comparison needs a current Collector’s Edition offer and a clearly defined alternative: the base game or Complete Edition, for which platform, and whether physical collectibles have value to you. The official US game page showed a standard PS4/PS5 listing for $49.99 and a PS4 listing with a digital PS5 upgrade for $39.99. The PlayStation Store listed the PS5 Complete Edition at $29.99, reduced from $59.99, with that offer scheduled to end at 06:59 UTC on October 8, 2026. These are time-sensitive US digital prices, not a current Collector’s Edition quote. PlayStation’s US game page and the Complete Edition listing are the relevant listings.
Because the Complete Edition includes the game and Burning Shores, comparing it with a Collector’s Edition that includes the base game alone would not be an equal-content comparison. And the sale price had less than two hours remaining at the time it was recorded; do not assume it remains available after its stated end time.
What the Collector’s Edition includes
Sony’s 2021 announcement describes a bundle with a digital game code, not a physical game disc. Its physical collectibles include a SteelBook display case, a custom sculpted Tremortusk and Aloy statue that requires some assembly, and a mini art book. Digital items include two outfits, two weapons, a resource pack, an Apex Clawstrider Machine Strike piece, Photo Mode extras, the soundtrack, and The Sunhawk, the first Horizon Zero Dawn graphic novel. The announced game entitlement covers PS4 and PS5. Sony’s Collector’s Edition announcement has the full list.

Check platform and edition before comparing
- Standard PS4/PS5 listing: PlayStation showed $49.99 for the listing covering both platforms.
- Standard PS4 listing: PlayStation showed $39.99 and says existing PS4 owners can get the PS5 digital version at no extra cost. For a disc copy, the disc must be inserted to download or play; this route is unavailable to PS5 Digital Edition owners.
- Complete Edition: The PS5 digital listing includes Burning Shores and listed digital extras. The $29.99 promotional price shown on October 8, 2026 was scheduled to expire at 06:59 UTC that day.
- Collector’s Edition: Sony’s announcement describes a digital code for PS4 and PS5 plus physical collectibles, but a current price and availability were not established.
Sony’s announcement stated: “Players who purchase Horizon Forbidden West on PlayStation 4 will be able to upgrade to the PlayStation 5 version for free.” That upgrade statement is about the PS4 purchase; it does not turn the Collector’s Edition into a disc bundle. If you are buying a used or new disc separately, make sure your console can use discs before counting that option as comparable.
What past discounts tell you
GameSpot reported a Collector’s Edition offer at $80 in May 2025 and a $30 offer in November 2025; the November report said the edition had sold out. Those are historical offers, not proof of a current price or remaining stock. See the May 2025 report and November 2025 report.

How to decide whether the bundle is worth its price
- Find a live Collector’s Edition listing and confirm its total price, seller, condition, and stock. Treat an old deal or an unavailable listing as no current offer.
- Choose the alternative you would actually buy: the standard edition, or the Complete Edition with Burning Shores. Compare options at the same time and on the same platform.
- Compare what you receive, not just the edition names. The Collector’s Edition’s game is a digital code; separately purchased game copies may be discs or digital purchases. Include console compatibility and the Complete Edition’s expansion in the comparison.
- Decide what the statue, SteelBook, art book, and other collectibles are worth to you. If you would not otherwise buy or use them, do not treat their advertised presence as cash savings.
Without a verified live Collector’s Edition price, the savings calculation cannot be completed. The available prices support a comparison among the official digital game editions, but not the headline’s claim about a $180 Collector’s Edition.
