What happened to CDKeys?
CDKeys announced on 26 August 2025 that it was changing its name to Loaded; the new name took effect in September 2025. The company said its catalogue included more than 15,000 titles, a figure it presented as its own catalogue claim rather than an independently audited count. Its announcement explained: “That’s why we’re changing our name to Loaded – and it’s not just to sound cool – it tells you all you need to know about what we do.” Read the announcement.

Readers searching for CDKeys may therefore encounter the Loaded storefront. The name change does not, by itself, establish whether any individual code is valid, compatible, or publisher-authorized.
How does buying a code work?
The retailer describes a digital purchase: you buy a code and redeem it through the relevant platform. CDKeys’ published FAQ said keys typically arrived immediately and advised contacting support if a key had not arrived after 10 minutes. Treat that as the seller’s published guidance, not a delivery guarantee; the older FAQ now redirects, so check the current product listing for delivery terms.

The former FAQ attributed low prices to buying from suppliers around the world and avoiding physical postage costs. A current Loaded category page also describes bulk buying through partners. Those are the retailer’s explanations, not independent confirmation of how a specific code was sourced or whether its resale was authorized by the publisher. See Loaded’s PC-games listings.
Why can the price be lower—and what does that mean?
Digital delivery avoids shipping a physical product, and the retailer says it sources products through suppliers and partners. That can help explain a discount, but it does not tell you whether a particular code will work in your country, on your platform, or with your account. Compare the total checkout price—not just the displayed price—with the official store’s price, including any currency conversion or checkout charges.

The older CDKeys FAQ claimed customers saved about £18, $21, or €20 per purchase, but the available indexed text did not provide a study, methodology, or publication year. That figure should not be treated as an independently verified average saving.
What should you check before paying?
- Confirm platform and region. Read the specific listing’s compatibility details. A platform label or “worldwide” wording does not necessarily mean a code works with every account or in every country. Loaded’s listings provide product and regional compatibility information, but you should check the item you intend to buy.
- Review delivery terms. Check the listing for expected delivery timing, especially for a preorder. The older FAQ described ordinary codes as usually delivered by email and gave separate timing for preorders; it is not a guarantee of current timing.
- Save the transaction evidence. Keep a copy of the product listing, order confirmation, code, and any platform error message. These details can help explain the problem if you need to contact support.
- Know where a failed redemption must be handled. A platform store may not be able to resolve a purchase made elsewhere. Steam says it cannot refund purchases made outside Steam, including third-party CD keys. Read Steam’s refund policy.
- Check the seller’s current refund terms. The current detailed Loaded terms for revealed, redeemed, faulty, or region-incompatible codes could not be verified. Do not assume a particular refund deadline or outcome; review the live terms before purchase.
What do complaints and “grey market” claims establish?
BBB complaint listings include individual reports alleging used, invalid, expired, or region-mismatched codes, along with disputes about support or refunds. These are consumer reports, not a measured failure rate or proof that the retailer commits fraud. BBB says it does not verify all profile information and does not endorse businesses. A 2026 overview characterizes CDKeys as a third-party or “grey-market” retailer. That label is not primary evidence about the provenance or authorization status of every listing. An operating retailer can sell codes whose sourcing or region restrictions are unclear to a buyer; this evidence does not justify declaring the whole service illegal or every code unauthorized. No independent code-failure rate is established by the available evidence. Individual reports can be a reason to check terms and preserve documentation, but they cannot tell you how often purchases succeed or fail.

Is a discounted code worth it compared with buying direct?
Use the same four checks for both purchase routes:
- Final cost: compare the checkout total after conversion or other charges.
- Compatibility: confirm the product works with your platform and account region.
- Support route: identify whether the retailer or platform handles a redemption problem.
- Refund terms: check the actual terms that apply to that seller and purchase.
For Steam, Valve explicitly excludes third-party CD-key purchases from its refunds. That does not establish what remedy Loaded will offer; check Loaded’s current terms rather than assuming either company must provide a particular outcome.
