INRIX, the Kirkland, Washington-based transportation-data and software company, raised $10 million in August 2022 after putting IPO preparations on hold. The company said it was profitable and would use the financing to accelerate investment and hiring in a new area of focus. CEO Bryan Mistele said INRIX had been about two weeks from filing IPO documents when economic and public-market uncertainty led it to pause. This is a 2022 funding story, not a current financing announcement.
What INRIX raised—and what is publicly known
GeekWire reported the $10 million financing on August 11, 2022, after seeing a related SEC filing; an INRIX spokesperson confirmed the raise. The public reporting did not identify the investors or detail the security, full terms, or whether the financing changed the company’s ownership structure. It also does not establish that the filing represented a completed $10 million sale on particular terms. GeekWire’s account is the basis for the reported amount and company statements.
According to the spokesperson, INRIX had not raised outside capital since 2014. The 2022 report put its cumulative private funding at approximately $122 million. A private-market database later identifies the 2022 financing as a Series F, but that label is not used in GeekWire’s report; it should be treated as a third-party classification, not an announced company designation. Forge’s financing record also gives an estimated post-money valuation, but that is not a valuation INRIX disclosed in the reporting and should not be treated as an official round figure.
Why raise money while profitable?
INRIX described the raise as a way to accelerate investment and add staff in a new area of focus—not as emergency funding to cover losses. The company said it was profitable, but it did not publish revenue, margins, cash reserves, free cash flow, debt, or burn rate. Profitability alone therefore does not show how much cash was available or how quickly the business could fund expansion internally.

Growth financing can let a company hire or develop products faster while preserving cash and operating flexibility. In INRIX’s case, the directly stated rationale was accelerated investment and hiring. Expansion into additional markets or data infrastructure may be plausible uses, but the company’s public explanation did not provide a detailed allocation plan.
INRIX was close to filing for an IPO, not to completing one
CEO Bryan Mistele said INRIX was about two weeks from filing documents with the SEC when it stopped the process. He said the company would remain on standby and could try again when markets and the economy improved. That statement supports the conclusion that INRIX was preparing to file; it does not establish that the company filed confidentially or publicly, selected underwriters, set a valuation, began a roadshow, priced shares, or completed a listing.

Mistele cited uncertainty after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and worsening public-market conditions. The timing also followed the technology IPO boom of 2021, when public-market conditions had been far more receptive to growth companies. In 2022, weaker markets made pricing and investor appetite less predictable. The company’s account points to market timing, but the available reporting does not disclose a board-level rationale, a valuation disagreement, underwriter advice, or specific investor feedback. A paused IPO is not proof that the business failed or that investors rejected it.
Forge’s later timeline also repeats the standby description, but it is third-party coverage rather than a new company confirmation. Forge’s IPO timeline should be read in that context.

From transportation data to software and analytics
INRIX was founded in 2004 and had built a business around transportation data. In 2022, its products and services included traffic information, location analytics, traffic-signal timing tools for government agencies, and road-safety products, including one developed with General Motors. The company also served financial-services customers using vehicle activity near retailers to estimate business activity, as well as companies seeking site-selection and customer-movement insights.
The strategic shift was toward selling more software and analytics on top of data rather than relying on data products alone. Mistele said SaaS represented about one-third of revenue in 2022. That is a company-reported mix at that time, not a measure of recurring revenue quality, margins, or the current revenue mix. He expected automotive revenue to shrink over time as public-sector and enterprise businesses grew.

INRIX said it had more than 1,200 customers in 2022, including automotive companies, public agencies, retailers, and financial-services firms. The company’s later catalog spans traffic, parking, safety, roadway, trip, curb, delivery, and developer API products. That product range is consistent with a broader software-and-analytics strategy, though it does not prove that the 2022 financing directly funded any specific later product. INRIX’s current product catalog shows the categories it markets now.
How the pandemic reshaped demand
Mistele said the pandemic initially created concern because many INRIX customers were automotive companies and driving activity fell. At the same time, rapidly changing travel patterns increased demand from federal and state governments seeking to understand mobility shifts. The disruption therefore had two opposing effects: it threatened some automotive demand while making timely transportation data more useful to public agencies and other organizations.

What powered the data business
In 2022, INRIX said its data came from more than 650 real-time sources and was anonymized. That is a company-reported figure, not an independently audited measurement. A separate description reproduced by Forge referred to aggregated anonymous data from hundreds of millions of vehicles and other sources; that account is not the same as a current verified vehicle count. INRIX’s current traffic materials describe inputs including commercial fleets, vehicles, phones, and IoT devices and repeat the 650-plus-source claim as company marketing. INRIX’s traffic brochure describes its present-day data sources.
What the financing signaled—and what it did not
The raise was notable because it came from a company that described itself as profitable and had been close to beginning an IPO process. It suggests INRIX wanted to fund faster investment while retaining the option to wait for better public-market conditions. For a software-and-data business, a larger software and analytics mix could also be a more compelling story for public investors than a business centered mainly on data feeds. That is analysis, not a disclosed explanation of the financing; the available reporting does not provide margins, customer retention, annual recurring revenue, or bookings to test the proposition.
INRIX remains an operating transportation-data and mobility-intelligence company. Its current site markets cloud applications and APIs, and in February 2026 the company announced a new generation of AI Traffic products. Those later offerings show continued product development, but there is no evidence in the cited material that the 2022 raise caused those launches. INRIX’s 2026 announcement describes that later development.
For customers considering the products rather than the financing, INRIX’s developer documentation describes API credentials and authentication; response formats depend on the product and can include JSON, XML, or images. The company advertises a free trial and IQ account, while reviewed product pages do not publish standardized enterprise prices. API documentation is at docs.inrix.com; developer access is described at INRIX’s developer page.
